Hi all - has anyone fitted a larger capacity (non-lithium) battery to a Gen 1 XR? Would appreciate any info and model numbers please.

OEM BMW batteries are known to be junk. Larger capacity non lithium batteries are often too big to fit in the space provided....there were two different capacity batteries fitted to the Gen-1 XR, the one for bikes with the factory alarm were slightly larger capacity.
Any reason you don't want a lithium battery..??
I've had a 290CCA Lithium battery in my bike for nearly 4years now without issue.

buy a lithium battery - much better, more capacity and much lighter. Have a look at Shido batteries

In answer to why not lithium, I was advised (by the Shido supplier in Brum) that although lithium are great for many reasons, cold ain’t one of them. That might be why the OP is enquiring about bigger cap LA.
(I’m not rubbishing lithium btw, I’ll likely try one myself next when my OEM battery dies - it’s at 3.5 years now, so prob won’t be long!)

Thanks for the recommendations folks. I’ve stayed away fro lithium only because I ride quite a bit in cold weather here in New England in the United States. I’ve heard of some issues in the cold from folks in the BMW owners group.

The Gen-2 top spec M model comes with a lithium battery as standard, Germany gets mighty cold too, the days of lithium batteries suffering in the cold are long gone.
