could this be a fork leakage?

Hi everyone,

Just found my 2018 xr had dirt residues on both sides of front forks, and it’s a bit greasy. Could this be a fork leakage? Thank you guys in advance.

Personally, I think that's fairly normal dirt accumulation but you should wipe it off and keep an eye on it.

A real leak will generally run down the leg and pool somewhere.

That is not bad but a bit more than normal in my experience.  Mine was like this a couple of years ago and I just used a Seal Mate.

Hi, my 2015 had same thing at about 20,000 miles,  did the seal mate thing (though I cut it from a plastic milk carton....tight Scot!),   cured one side but ended up having to replace the fork seal on the other.  Now have a 2016 which is doing the same thing at 13,000 miles,  currently wiping and watching but once the weather warms up I'll be trying the "seal mate" again,see how it goes.

Completely normal for an XR :-D I have had two lots of fork seals in 28Kmiles first set at about 10K miles, second set now.

Mine were worse than that but that's how they start though. I had residue like that before a trip to Scotland, so I tried the seal mate trick and it get get rid of loads of dirt. However 1000miles later they were leaking really badly so I have done them agan.

Good news is that its a pretty simple job with a few tools.

I am borderline obsessive about wiping the muck off my fork legs, this is a job I'd like to avoid.

The last seal I did was on my Multi at 15k miles. It wasn't hard per se, but it was hours of pulling body work and using wedges to get the clamps on the fork legs to open. The dealer here quoted me $600 if I just took the legs in; having got them off, I just went the whole way and did it all myself.

I don't think you need to remove much body work, hardest bit is disconnecting the plug for the electronic suspension from the harness. It has a fiddly clip holding it to a bracket. Other than that its pretty simple.

First in Amethyst Grove, off the road leading from the A3 exit up to Cowplain, and then Wallis Road, backing on to the park. That's actually the address on my UK paper drivers license
