New ESA rear shock

My 2017 Sport SE goes in for another replacement ESA rear shock next Friday.  This will be it's 4th one - all replaced under warranty.  The current one has done 23,000 miles, so much better than the previous two!
I tell the dealer that to me, the rear shock is just a consumable, like an oil filter, only more expensive. (~£2000 fitted).

Did you get some sort of extended warranty or what's the story behind this? Would they just replace it for free if it goes bad on it's own?

Mine has done over 38k km and still works fine.
