Save me messing about, I understand it’s 32mm hex but how deep with that square bit on the end?
Or is that square bit something you can use to undo it with some standard spanner or something? Why the hell is it even there?
I could get a deep impact socket but rather not if a standard impact socket will do the job

Not personally qualified to confuse cats, but I can recommend an extremely good service.

Square is usually for speed sensors, my mechanic zipped it off with a standard impact socket, i wouldn't worry too much but if you don't already have one might as well get the deep socket.

Trouble with deep ones is the leverage forces laterally especially how much of a basket this particular nut is supposed to be. If the standard one fits, plenty good enough.
Thanks

Follow up, standard impact socket and cordless impact driver and zero resistance. Very happy as this was the one part that was concerning me a touch.
Won’t use a cordless next time but worth the £35 for the hire

I can't even remember what I used, but suspect it was an open-ended spanner, as I don't remember searching for a 12-point socket to fit.
It hasn't fallen off - yet.

if you refitted the locking washer - it shouldn't be able to fall off

You'd be surprised... The saga I went through with my ER6, front sprocket nut kept loosening up, even with red loctite and 2 or even 3 tabs of the washer bent over the nut.
