    RR to XR

Hi folks,I’m Ross from Perth,Scotland. Have been riding a Gen 3 RR for the last 5 years and on Thursday I took a new XR for a test ride. Absolutely loved it!
This morning I placed an order for TE model in Red and traded my RR. Getting BMW to fit rad guards and M chain. Will ventureshield it and look at R&G and going to fit SC Project exhaust.
Looking for recommendations for a tank bag and matching gripper pads and tank pad. Normally go for stomp grips but if someone has a better option am open to ideas.
Here’s hoping for a bright summer and an end to restrictions, take care folks.

     :400:

You're right in the heart of great XR roads there, I think

I think you'll enjoy a blast on the XR, more than the RR, which is a bit bonkers for the roads in central/highland Scotland, I feel.

Keep us updated on your experience on that chain?   Most are intrigued. :028:

    Welcome!

Tank bag recommendation: SW-Motech Pro Daypack Tank Bag. The Pro version just came out last fall. Unlike previous versions, the bag can be adjusted forward and backward as needed by loosening four bolts on the underside, sliding the upper ring forward or back, and retightening the four bolts. With this adjustability, I can easily move it back and forth between my RR and my XR. See pics.

Grip Pads and Tank Protection: I've had both Stomp Grips and TechSpec; I prefer TechSpec. The XR Techspec set came with a matching tank pad that I didn't use; instead, I used a faux carbon fiber tank protector that covered more area and looked good with my CF components. See pics.

M Chain: I have 9130 miles (14,700 km) on my M Chain so I'm still thousands of miles from knowing how this chain will ultimately perform (my RR regular chain lasted until 18,000 miles (29,000 km)). I have noticed that after three tire changes, the mark I use for setting the M Chain's tension has not moved at all, i.e., the chain length has not increased at all so far. Be aware that the owner's manual has a different take than the PR release, it says: "The low-maintenance drive chain is cleaned and lubricated in the course of the annual service interval. In the interest of an optimum service life, the low-maintenance chain can be additionally relubricated using a chain lubricant suitable for low-maintenance chains." Given this, I still apply a light coating of dry Teflon chain lub after every full day of riding.

Do SW Motech still do a powered version of the mounting ring? I have the previous version and it provides power inside the bag.

Bagster system for me with several bikes in use means I can use one tank bag that I can swap between them, that can be zipped up or down size wise depending on how much kit you want to carry  :001:, best of all when fuelling up just un-clip the rear one ones and flip the bag up rather than the hassle of taking it off and putting down on some skanky garage forcourt.

There is a slip up and in opening into the main compartment of my Pro bag through which power can very easily be routed, but I didn't see an option on their site for powered Pro ring. You should ask them.
