akra headers and brentuning stage 3 flash/dyno tune question

    Hi everyone,

I've got a HP Corse slip on and Brentuning stage 2 flash on my 2018 xr, have to say the result is amazing. Now I am planning to install the akra headers and get the Brentunig stage 3 flash. My question is, do you think it's necessary to get my local tuner to further tune it on the dyno machine after Brentunig stage 3 flash?

    Regards,

    Yan

Looks like (same numbers) stage 2 for the Gen 2?

Stage 2 is more for stock or only slip on exhaust. Stage 3 is for full exhaust and racing air filter. For stage 3 you get a bunch of advantages over stage 2 which you can see on their website:

    https://brentuningmoto.com/product/bmw-s1000rr-final-edition/

This is description for s1000rr, but it’s same thing for s1000xr.

    odd..
Im running a stage 2 with a decated stock pipe, an Akro can an IAT relocate and a K&N...Im very happy with the results... so the reason I ask is because I was told not to waste my money on a stage 3 unless it was a track bike...and that came right from brentune in an email.

In any event, to answer your question, i doubt you need to put it on a dyno with a local tuner but it certainly wont hurt.

Thanks for you input. Now I’m confused too... can I just use my stage 2 flash for aftermarket headers? Or I need to let BT to change the stage 2 settings? I clearly remember they asked me whether I had done the headers or not when I purchased stage 2 flash.

I would send Brendan an email and ask him.....when I removed my cat I sent an email asking about updating the tune and I was told it would be fine as is ...it may be different for a full system, Im not sure .

Thats also when I asked about the stage 3 and he told me it really wasn't necessary on the street...that the stage 2 was a better choice .... I appreciated his honesty. he could have easily sold me a new tune and taken my money .

Im on a 2018 XR for reference

They told me (no headers) that the software adjusts on its own to compensate for the increased air flow. I also have the sprint filter and the block offs. Still stage two.

More telling are the numbers. No change, why pay?

With they give you a “Stage 3” decal too?

As far as I know you can’t retune the Brentune flash as they don’t allow it ie they have unique codings written on them (or something like that) which doesn’t allow any third party to access them, I had the stage 3 flash and it didn’t work for me, I took it to my local Dyno tuner and did a direct comparison with Brentune stage 3 flash on and then the stock ecu, both WOT curves were identical but the low load fuelling was terrible with the Brentune flash on, when I sent the results to Brentune they stopped talking to me, I’ve since taken their flash off and had it set up directly on the Dyno, I know others are happy with Brentune but that’s my experience.

Doesn't brentune work the same way as a PC5? You get the handheld and you can reflash it as many times as you want? Surely you can just ask for a different preset tune?
