Gen2 XR Foot Peg Dangerous Failure; Fixed with SW Motech EVO Footrest Kit

BMW sells their OEM foot pegs for $114.87 each as "Foot peg, left, with foot peg rubber" and "Foot peg, right, with foot peg rubber". After ~11,000 miles, this is what both of mine looked like...

...the foot peg rubber is a hollow tube; it ripped in such a way that I first noticed it when I stood up and felt it and my foot move forward. In wet conditions, I went to mount my bike and the rubber boot slid forward enough that my foot slid off the peg; my shin hit the peg and my knee hit the bike's frame. If this had happened while I was in moving, I might have seriously injured something.

This is a designed-in safety problem, so I didn't even consider trying to get them replaced under warranty. Instead, for $192.94 (includes shipping), I bought and installed an SW Motech EVO Footrest Kit (https://sw-motech.us/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&wkid=16227607553954&ls=en&ssl=1&artnum=FRS.08.112.10201&kombi=)...

...these pegs are Wonderful (notice the capitalization). You can use them in any one of four (X,Y) positions where the first digit is front to back and the second digit is up and down: (0,0) (same as OEM), (0,-15mm), (-7.5mm, -7.5mm), (+7.5mm, -7.5mm). I use them in the (-7.5mm, -7.5mm) where they give me a little more room than the (0,0) OEM position. Shifting and braking are both easier for me in this position. You can also separately adjust the tilt of the foot peg; I have mine so they tilt forward by one increment where they seem to match the natural angle of my foot. The rubber insert is removable via a single nut on the bottom if you want a metal enduro style either instead or temporarily. During a 150 mile test ride yesterday, I found the rubber to be Much (again notice the capitalization) better than the OEM pegs; the rubber isolates my feet completely from the engine vibrations I felt with the OEM pegs.

The rubber is fitted with 2 pop rivets and very easy to reattach.

I saw that, but the rubber is torn for at least half it's length. There's no way to make that right without a replacement rubber and BMW doesn't sell just the rubber piece.

Yes after 3000km on my s1000xr 2021, my rigth side rubber on footrest broke the riding was sh#t to say the least, felt like having foot on balloon and trying to find grip to lock was imposible, I went to store asked for price and new footrest got msg that it's 90 euros, I whould never go back to that shitty quality, definitely dangerous to drive with, if u only do slow speed touring maybe it's ok but I whould recommend everyone to switch them, I got m style ones and one downside is that carbon takes easy marks from boots but everything else is great about m style the foot locks and grips without issue and looks pretty robust and good quality.

Nice, but expensive (~$1150 vs ~$200 for the SW-Motech pegs). I like their more extensive adjustability vs the SW-Motech pegs. I knew about these early on when they announced the M Milled Parts Package Option, but forgot about them during this foot peg episode. Might still go this way in the unlikely case that issues develop with the SW-Motech pegs. P.S. How do you keep your CAT so clean? Scratch that, likely your lower mileage vs mine (3000km vs my 18,213km). Thanks for reminding me about these.

This was my solution to the factory footpads. I purchased a set of footpegs and turning joints on Ebay and purchased a set of Gilles Tooling Sports pegs and adapted them to it.

SW Motech has always provided quality products. Everything I have purchased from them on the XR and other bikes has always  been stellar. What is the maximum rearward setting? I’m trying to cure the dreaded pegs gouging into my calves at stop lights. I’m interested in any of the pegs mentioned.

See my original post at the top; I discuss the position options for the SW-Motech footpegs there.

I couldn't find it any more either. Here's the description, et al., from my order:
