    Low suspension

    Hi Gentleman and Ladies
I'm new here. Buying this week a new 2021te
I would like to know how does the low suspension (from factory) influence the bike (agility, stiffness, comfort), is it a compromise?
I'm 1.70 so the regular is quite tall for me though I managed in the test ride.
    Thank you in advance

    I have a 2016 XR Low.

The biggest difference for me is confidence. Knowing that when you stop at a junction you will get a foot down, especially where the road has a slope. Even more on single track roads where you might need to stop for a logging truck as on my recent trip to Scotland.

I have ridden standard height bikes, Gen 1 & Gen 2, and I do not think there is much difference as the seat to peg heights remain the same I believe and the bike certainly handles well.

Just be aware that if you do buy the standard height Gen-2....you cannot lower it like the Gen-1...the Gen-2 doesn't have links in the rear suspension like the Gen-1. If you want to lower the Gen-2, you need to change the shock & fork assemblies....quite an expensive excercise I would imagine.

I'm wondering if the low model has preload adjustment. The owners manual shows the option screen for 1 up, 1 up with luggage or 2 up. My 2021 low suspension bike doesn't have this screen. I have had a few K1600's so I am familiar. Is the adjustment automatic based on load so no need for choices?

Are you looking at the paper manual issued with the bike or a pdf from the BMW website? If the latter, do you have the right manual?

I thought all of the bikes with LCD dash have the new style preload that is at a default setting of Auto but can be put into Max or Min, just like the GS & RS.

The display with the 1 rider, 2 rider etc is on the Gen 1 bikes.

You might not have the ESA option, it's probably all manual, check if yo u have any wires coming out of the forks and a big black box on the shock.

Does anyone have a Gen2 without ESA?, I had to custom order my GEN1 as such.

Base model with no extras doesn't have ESA, part of the "Dynamic Package", comes standard on TE models
