    noise level (db check)

    Hi,

I booked in for and IAM skills day on a track (Thruxton, UK) a couple of years ago (postponed due to pandemic).  It's coming up and I've just read the details.  Thruxton has a noise level test and you need to be sub 99db.  On a brief google I've seen people saying factory settings is 103 - 106 ?  I've a 2017 model with factory pipes.  Just wondered if anyone has been monitored and checked ?  A lot of people have said the bike is noisier than average (mainly in passing rather than anger so I've never taken much notice!)

    Cheers,

    Ben.

I did a track day at Brands with a Mivv slip on and was under 100 decibels so i think you’ll be fine.

standard 2016 XR is at 96. Thus too much for some roads. 2020+ bike is at 95.

Thanks guys.  Must admit it hadn't occurred to me before but sounds like it will be fine :-)

Roll up with a bog stock bike you’ll be fine, but never fall into the trap of because track allows an open can others will as well...it’s all down to how much the neighbours will put up with during the week.

I’ve done two IAM Skills days at Thruxton on a stock 2017 S1000XR - one a few weeks ago and one last year. Zero noise problems. You’ll be fine. Half the IAM staff riders seem to be on S1000XRs too.

Great days out. I prefer them to a normal TD because as well as the learning points, the one thing that is relentlessly drilled in to everyone is the proper line and the concept that’s it’s YOU that needs to deviate from that if you want to pass others.
