    PDM60 on a 2021 XR

Need some assistance. Installing a PDM60 on my 2021 BMW XR Sport. The device requires a Trigger line. This electrical line from   the PDM60 is used to activate the device. You positap onto an exsisting OEM line that has a least 9Volts. Tried all the wires that go to the bikes rear license plate, turn signals, etc. and no go. They are all LED lights. Has anyone installed a PDM60 on a Gen2 XR?? What OEM electrical line did you positap into to activate/ trigger the PDM60?? Best- Doc :084: :084:

could you run a trigger wire from where the SatNav plugs in behind the right panel. I know it is long, but it should be pretty easy.

Aren't they all LED lights on whatever gen you have?
Mine is gen 1, and I suceessfully tap off the rear light cluster. There is a power supply there, as long as it's not the pulsed "switch" line, you should be ok.

    SimonUK,
Looking for an OEM line in the REAR of the bike. Do not want to run the trigger all the way up to the front of the bike.

    philbuck,
On the Gen 2 all the wires running to the rear tail light assembly of the bike have less than 9V. This is most likely because they are going to LED's. Positaping them did not work. The PDM 60 requires at least 9v to trigger it on.

Need location & color code of OEM wire near rear of Gen 2 bike that is at least 9V when the bike is on and 0 when the bike is off.

    Best,

I don't understand the reasoning for BMW feeding JUST 9v to the rear, because the lights have never been anything BUT Leds, but that's not what's at issue here !!
(If you measured with a voltmeter, I'd double check with an oscilloscope, as a voltmeter won't see the pulses, but just read a lower average voltage)

On the gen 1 there is another plug under the front of the seat which you can tap into IIRC, which carries 12v. Maybe it's there on the gen 2 ?

Are you sure the leds only see 9V? I thought the voltage was 12V, with the combined rear light / brake light using Pulse Width Modulation to run dim for the rear light and at full brightness for the brake light. The number plate light should give you a switched constant 12V feed.

    marksmcparts,

Nope, somehow BMW has reduced the voltage to the rear tail light assembly on the 2021 XR. I guess this is because entire rear tail light assembly has LED's that run at a lower voltage. Rowe electronics stated that the trigger wire to activate the PDM 60 has to see at least 9 Volts. Still looking for an electrical source/ OEM wire with color code in the REAR of the 2021 BMW S1000XR that is activated/ has at least 9 volts of current when the ignition of the bike is turned on and shuts OFF when the XR is turned off. I have found one source/ wire that goes to the fuse box on the left side of the REAR of the bike. Unfortunately, it does not shut off immediately. Best,

I think you'll find that they all stay live for some time after the bike is shut off. I believe its a can-bus requirement.
