Route planning APP\ PC program

Hi All

Before you all say Garmin Base Camp Please DO NOT! I just don't get on with it at all! Yes I have tried and tried, watched hours of YouTube videos.

I'm after something I can use on a Windows PC & tablet on and off line.

Back in the day I did use Auto Route but it's dead and gone and over the past few years I have used Base Camp it just drives me mad, it's not too hard it's just does not fit for me, I cannot explain why it just does not fit. 

Maybe it's 25 years in IT, if a programme does not work for me I'll find one that does.

I'm after suggestions where I can create a route and up-load to the Nav6 I have so .GPX files, it has to include UK and Europe just in case we can ever go there again!

I use calimoto.com to plan a route on the PC then export that route as a .gpx and import it into the BMW connected app, which does not use phone data, so is offline. Works fine. You could import them into your nav 6 but I have no idea if that has all the free maps offline like the BMW connected app does.
My girlfriend does the same on her XR.
Have just planned the routes for a two week trip to Corsica in few weeks, all in the BMW app on both phones.

I use Kurviger and I find it easy and intuitive. It has options so you can choose curvy, less curvy, straightest/fastest options, avoid motorways etc. I plan the route on the PC, save it file as a .gpx and then download it to my TomTom and it works perfectly. Ive used it for both UK and Europe route planning.

Head on over to UkGSer forum, there is plenty on there about alternatives. Eg. Kurviger or MyRouteApp.
However, I have tried alternatives and always return to Basecamp!

I plan routes on Google maps as you can use Streetview to check roads to see if they are suitable for any anxious riders I might be with, especially those 2 up on mega tourers or the short arse on an unsuitable bike (as it is a KTM Super Duke, adding for his stature is superfluous  ).

I find banging the route directly into my Zumo 390 is just as quick as dicking about with an app, carefully selecting exit points to villages or intersections so you always end up on the right road even if there is a detour as it is market day or whatever.

This works especially well when on holiday where I may be in a base for a few days and have not planned a specific route for a day or change my plans after a longer lunch stop, wander around an attraction or weather related. A 10" tablet is easy to store on the bike and adequate for google maps for bar room planning after dining.

This method means you get to know your device very well and you are plotting the route with the data in the device so do not get compatibility errors as there is not perfect congruence between the maps on the app and satnav e.g. a new bypass or one way system.

I use MyRouteApp on the web. Works really well and the new GPX format the support works even better with the Zumo XT. Though not so good on a Nav V. It might work better on a Nav VI

I use TomTom MyDrive online to build custom routes, and it syncs up with TomTom Go app. It used to be that you can only use custom routes on Android version of the app. Not sure if iOS is supported or not. Maps are offline so you do not need cell service to use the app.

you can also export the custom routes as GPX.

$13 a year is well worth it.
