Just picked up my 2016 S1000XR. No vibes
« on: May 19, 2016, 09:51:26 PM »
Well after having every problem under the sun with my Ducati DVT I have returned back to the BMW brand. Last year I owned a new S1000R and the vibes were just awful. They were so bad that the mirrors would blur up everything behind especially at motorway speeds. Well I am pleased to say that my new S1000XR has no vibes at all. The mirrors are crystal clear and I can even make out whats behind me. Very happy indeed.

My bike is a factory lowered April 2016 build. Have BMW now addressed and fixed this vibe problem or am I just one of the lucky ones?

Rumour has it that they have changed engine mounts but aren't letting on to avoid an expensive recall on earlier models

Mines a 2015 build and doesn't really have any vibes i would class as abnormal , it is a Sports version though (non SE) although i wouldn't have thought it had any bearing on it.

Maybe they have changed something, who knows, but there are loads of people just like me who never had a problem in the first place. I think lots of people go looking for something personally just because a couple of early reviews mentioned 'vibes', i guess thats normal but theres been loads of reviews, all overwhelmingly positive, that haven't mentioned vibes being a problem at all.

Take the DVT reviews early on for example, i know of at least two or three reviews from well respected journos that mentioned vibrations through the seat on that.

Glad yours is ok though, I'm sure you'll love it

They do (did ?) vibrate a bit, some worse than others
But it's not something that would have put me off buying the beast
And they've got progressively 'less' as the 6000km have racked up

Well that's exactly my point, it's subjective.

Mine is a sport too and I don't give a sh1t about vibes... Imo if you are riding it in a Manor that allows you the time to notice them, you bought the wrong bike

I picked mine up on Saturday morning from Manchester and instantly had an hour's journey on the motorway back home in the pissing down rain. I waited to see if the dreaded vibes would shake me off the bike, but there was nothing to write home about. At 5k there is a definite resonance, but I'd say it's no different to most bikes - certainly, my previous bike (F800GSA) was much the same.

I think a lot is to do with how hard you hold the bars. If you've got a light touch on the grips, it's certainly more noticeable than a more manly approach! 😁

I can't seem me doing much cruising stuck at 5k, but I may well try some bar end weights to see if the vibe disappears altogether.

In short, you'd be mad to blame barely noticeable vibes as a reason to buy something else. It's not a bloody Rolls Royce wafting about!

My experience was v similar to yours..
First 600 miles there was a noticeable vibe at those RPM's but much better than the one I test rode 6 months previously...not enough to stop me wanting one bad.
After 600 mile service they were hardly noticeable.
1200 miles got a Evotech tail tidy so bought the bar end weights to make delivery worthwhile, now its smoother than my RT and that is one biiig smooooth. Enjoy the new bike!

No vibes on my 2016, there are small spacers between the bar clamps and top yoke, dealer said these are only on 2016 models, no idea if that's true but no vibes anyway
