2017 Sport SE 60,000 miles and it looked like the right fork seal was weeping - oil on the stanchion. OK, for the mileage, that’s to be expected. I took it to my favoured dealer for them to check my diagnosis.
No it’s not the seal, it’s leaking oil from where the stanchion is joined to the knuckle that holds the brake caliper and wheel! WTF!! £700 repair bill as it needs a new stanchion. More rubbish quality BMW suspension (do they buy it from Aliexpress?)
BMW extended warranty - useless - only covers suspension up to 30,000 miles, they clearly know it’s sh#t!
In 45 years of riding motorcycles I have never heard of this happening.
Anyone heard of this? or know of a cheaper fix?

Yes I saw that - checked the part number and it's the lowered suspension version as far I tell from the part number.
They seller says it's part number 31428549848
On the MAXBMW site for that part number it states:
FOR VEHICLES WITH LOWERING (CODE: X499A) :
02 31 42 8 549 848 FORK ROD, GOLD, RIGHT

Same seller also has the right part (31428549840) here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255076519409?hash=item3b63becdf1:g:xeoAAOSwkSdgr7Dm
Black rather than gold, but might be easier to deal with...
Don't know why all the guys selling used parts seem to think it's worth twice as much..
Maybe a specialist could repair it?

The black are non ESA that’s the way you ID them.

I seem to recall that the ESA cartridge was in the left fork. Does that not make the right forks the same as non ESA, despite the colour? Worth finding out I suppose, unless someone here knows for sure

Internals are different. The "Black" forks are more akin to the normal old fashioned manually dampened forks.

Smithy.
When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather....not screaming like the passengers in his car..!

UPDATE: I cleaned the fork leg - I've now done 1500 miles whilst monitoring the fork leg. No sign of any leak - bloody weird!
