Anyone got suggestions for decent medium / lightweight leathers? I had mine made 16 years ago by Hideout which have been amazing and saved me from breaking my leg when I slid in some diesel many years ago, but they are getting tired and weigh the proverbial ton!

Hideout are still going ... or do you want something off the peg and/or cheaper now?

Blimey...deep breath...went to Hideout must be 5/6 years had a custom pair made, took them back to have them altered at extra cost to me(twice), don’t want to even think of the cost, but I just didn’t get on with them, and rather than have then tucked away in a bottom draw gave them away to a friends son who resides in sunny SW France, went and bought an off-the-peg Dainese pair which I have to this day.

I have a gortex suite from Hideout best customer service as far as I can tell, the suite is now 6 years old and still going strong, yep Hideout are not cheap but if you want it to last then the money is well spent.

As for Leathers I'd go down the RST route good range in price and of the peg, most of the shops are up for a bit of bargaining on the price.

I know you are after some lighter new ones but have you thought of getting your Hideout set refurbished by them instead or as well as some new ones. Kate reckons they can fix pretty much anything plus feed the leather etc. I got a set made last year and they are amazing quality.

I was thinking of getting them refurbished but the weight is the real problem. I think they were styled on what the Met police were wearing so  really heavy. On a hot day they make you wilt!

I am quite pleased with the Aerostich Transit Suit 3.  Not too heavy.  Gore Tex.  Lots of reflectors. Some ventilation.  Excellent quality.  I bought a Transit 1 twelve years ago (old model, not made now) and a Transit 3 last year.

Dainese for lightness and very supple compared to other makes, my track leathers are rev-it ,good quality but heavy.

I have a set of Weise Hydra leathers from Fowler’s in Bristol. They pretty much threw in an Air Spin mesh jacket, so most eventualities are covered. The trousers are pretty light and fit exceedingly well.

In addition, the interconnecting zip is compatible with my Rukka suit, so if I want to I can wear my Nivala jacket and gloves with leather trousers when it’s cooler and not pouring down. The drop liner in the trousers stops me getting wet if it rains.

It’s a great combination and doesn’t take up too much wardrobe space.

Experience suggests that all I really need are: -

1) My Rukka Nivala suit;
2) Weise Hydra (vented) leather trousers; and
3) Weiss Air Spin jacket (with thermal and waterproof drop liner).
