    Dangerous fuel leak

Until today I did not know that the earlier Xrs had a fuel leak problem.I have a 2015 model with just 7k kilometres. In Laos there is no BMW dealer and the borders to Thailand etc(nearest BMW dealer)  are closed so I have to fix it myself and I am a very average mechanic(very) .I started the bike up and there was a strong smell of petrol.I could see it dripping down the right hand side of the bike (as you are sat on the bike) so quickly turned the bike off and took the battery out.I read the articles, in the forum, on the fuel leaks but am puzzled as to where the leak is on my bike?I took the fuel tank out and the hoses were clipped into place (see photos). You can see in the one photo where there is a puddle of petrol next to the Densho item. The petrol pipe itself looks ok but there is a small nick in the pipe (see photo) and it is difficult to see if this is a surface nick or something deeper? Is the pipe under pressure when you are riding?I can replace the pipe with a new generic fuel pipe but would appreciate it if you can suggest other things that I can check for>TIA.Simon

the only fuel leaks I know about are to do with the quick disconnect on the fuel pump side, but ti does not look like yours is leaking. On another note, on your 2nd picture i am pretty sure that is not an OEM clamp(the jubilee clamp), so it looks like someone has been in there changing things already.

+1 But i’d Still double check the female, why the hell they still fit plastic i’ll Never know, last time I had a major drama on a trip was when one similar on another bike sheared off.

It'll 99% be the 90 degree elbow going into the fuel pump...they split in or near the O-ring groove. There's a metal alternate for them...which is what most go for after their silly plastic ones break.

Yes they are under pressure whilst riding, or any time the ignition is on, you can hear the pump running when the ignition is on and the engine isn't running...they normally run ~60-70psi.

SimonUK...they are the normal BMW clips, mine had the same.

Thanks very much everyone for the advice. Its a process of elimination so I will order the parts suggested which will take a few weeks.Have you got any recommendations for the best place to buy these parts especially the metal replacement for the 90 degree elbow?
