Sale tag off an XR here in Austin, TX

Here is the sale tag off a new 2021 S1000XR at the BMW Dealer here in Austin, TX. With tax and dealer "fees" it came out to $25,000. Tax was a bit under $1,000. Tried to trade in my Multistrada for it but the dealer would only give me $11,000 lol.

I noticed the 2022 XR will no longer have the Ice Gray option, or the "premium package". Can anyone describe to me the differences between the "Pro" headlight and regular headlight? How many different packages are there, Select, Premium, Sport, M?

Jeesus that's a robbery if i've ever seen one! I was offered 15k GBP (around 20-21k USD) for a top spec Motorsport TE model with multiple bling bits like sport screen, comfort seat and couple carbon bits... On the road!

As far as I'm aware the premium is just Sport + Touring pack in one, they made some of the contents of those 2 standard spec, but that build sheet seems to suggest otherwise, not really sure.

Agree that the price is way out of line. While a spec built XR with every available OEM option is $24k, I got my ‘21 for south of $20k

As for the PRO is a hold out from UK models. Over there the stupid (IMHO) extra “cornering” lights in the headlight was an option. I believe a large percentage of US imports have the PRO included. ‘22 they must have just done away with the option and made it standard.

What are my options if I do not want to go through this dealer? This "BMW Motorcycles of Austin" shares a building with "RideNow Powersports", a Honda/Seadoo/Kawasaki/Yamaha dealer. They are the only BMW dealer in Austin, TX. Can I contact another dealer and have them ship to me?

Have a look on-line. (I.e Cycletrader) May opt to ride/trailer or many dealers have a shipping option. I’ve got a riding bud that always purchases his from a SoCal dealer and has it shipped to TN. His last (a KTM super duke) cost him $500 to ship.

Yeah walk away from that deal..well run away actually.... I bought my bike 2 states over so just  get on the internet and start shopping.... then either ship it, or go get it and ride it home.
or better yet,do what I did and have it delivered by the dealer themselves... ...for me,  that was part of the negotiation....most if not all BMW dealers offer pick up options for service so they already have the truck

I have heard very good comments on the dealer in Albuquerque NM.  Sandia BMW Motorcycles. Only the next door state  :008:

Note that Ride Now Powersports was acquired the end of August 2021 by "Rumble On".  I helped a friend purchase his leftover KTM Superduke GT at Ride Now in Florida.  Not a pleasant experience but eventually got the deal done at a very fair price.

    Beemah,

The only thing I would utilize the bike you are considering for is a test ride. Decide between Reg or Low? Remember Low can equal "Dragging Parts”. That sounds like a bad deal.

Consider spending some time here: https://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/en/models/adventure/s1000xr.html. The BMW web site will answer the majority of your questions.

FYI: The early models of the XR (2020) in the USA did not have the HEADLIGHT PRO (HP) feature. The HP is were the front head LED’s functioned as running lights. Instead only the right low beam was visible as a running light. Many said that the early Gen 2 got a “Black Eye” in the USA. The issue was regulatory. Now, all Gen 2 should come with HP. The one you are looking at does not. It is a bair bones base model in a discontinued color.

BMW Motorrad dealerships in the USA are having a hard time getting bikes. Many buyers are looking at what bikes have already been allocated to a dealerships and are putting down refundable deposits just so they can have the option to purchase the bike when it arrives. In short if you find something you really like-BUY IT!

Consider also spending some time here: https://www.cycletrader.com/2021-2022-BMW-S-1000-Xr/motorcycles-for-sale?type=Motorcycle%7C356953&make=BMW%7C2315626&model=S%201000%7C764854664&trim=XR%7C28268&year=2021%3A2022&sort=price%3Adesc . Cycle trader is great resource and may be a place to advertise your Ducati for sale. Remember: Most Motorcycle Dealers in USA are usually going to give you “Rock Bottom” for your trade in. This is normal.

If you purchase a bike out of state you are still responsible for paying your state taxes. This usually occurs when you get the bikes registration.

Personally, I have never had any luck purchasing a new car or motorcycle sight unseen. In my option to do so is ridiculous. If you are in Texas there is an absolutely “Loaded” 2021 XR Sport at Motorcycles of Dulles: https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2021-BMW-S-1000-XR-5017235818. Might be worth the trip to see what an XR with all the options looks like??

    Best,

Great post! One clarification. On the ‘21’s HP will not be specified on the dealer product tag as it appears to be standard.

I’ll add one more resource (Google should automatically translate)
