2 things: woobling at high speeds and higher flow air filter

    Hi:
Some time ago, I've made a little test of the Gen 1 XR and accelerate approximately to 200 km/h in a straight part of a road, and the motorbike started to move to the sides, but I had to say that I was going with my Shad top case and side cases, and the rear shock configured with 2 helmets set up. I guess this is normal when you're going with all the cases and with them loaded, but I saw some people experienced without any extra load. At the same time, a friend asked if this could be solved with a better steering damper, like the on like Hyperpro manufactures, because, otherwise, I don't want to lower the front suspension and change motorbike's geometry (mine is equipped as most, with ESA). I ask this, because I'd like to go to a big race track in the future, and I wouldn't like to happen this. Some people told me to check motorcycle wheels balance and also other told me change the front fork springs and rear shock absorber with Wilbers ones (despite of this, and it seems very interesting, but going to a suspension technician always is expensive -despite they always can work this issues-), and it was supposing this bike was also manufactured to be appropriate for race tracks too.
I'm also thinking on changing the air filter with the P08 aftermarket, Sprint's made (https://www.sprintfilter.net/motorcycle/products/bmw/s1000xr/64), and looking for a possible reprogramming to a Stage1 of the ECU in the future. Changing the air filter I don't want to affect much motorcycle's heart, its engine and its durability, just little touch. Some people advice me don't changing the air filter specially if I live in a dirty environment, but I don't understand what they wanted to mean with this. And I'd also like to know if somebody has the stock filter's filtering parameters but don't know where can I find them. I would appreciate a lot if you help in this last issue, to have an idea of the filtering differences and parameters.
Tell me about your experiences, please. I like always like knowing the causes of this things and its science (know that I will study motorcycles mechanic in the future due to I'm very interested in it for enthusiasm and as a hobby). Thanks in advance to y'all. Cheers

I had a Sprint filter(I got caught up in all the hype on the RR forum) installed for around 800 miles, removed it after that and threw it away, there was so much crap in my airbox after such few miles. I subsequently installed a BMC filter(had one on my K13 for +50k miles without issue), have one on my R for 20k miles and the XR one now has 25k miles on it with 0 dust/pollen/whatever in the airbox.

    Hi,
Note that Sprint Filter has so many versions for because it also has this other version only focused for track, the sprint filter p08 f1-85 https://conquestracingltd.com/product/sprint-filter-bmw-s1000-r-rr-hp4-xr-air-filter-p08f1-85/ This other one doesn't make so much against dirty. I'm talking about street/track version.

Re filter: Consensus is Stock is plenty good for tuning applications, only go Sprint if you live in a moist environment where there is no dust. Other than that I'd save my pennies there.

Re wobbling: I'm currently battling this issue too. When new tyres were fitted the bike became extremely wobbly at 100-120, but steering damper keeps things in control, I played around with suspension height and raising and lowering it didn't do too much for the wobbles but dropping the front of the bike did make it handle much nicer as you initiate a turn without affecting stability. Wobbling was still the same as ever. I had a saga regarding wheel balance too and it definitely has a massive effect on the wobbling but it's not completely eliminated still but i'm also not 100% sure my front wheel balance is absolutely spot on yet. Checked steering head bearing, was a tad loose, tightened up, minor improvement to the wobbling. Stiffening up the damper will not solve your problem as it's a fundamental harmonic problem, not one that comes from bad road surfaces (the only problem a steering damper will fix) Placing load on the rear and seems to make it worse, but shock settings do not affect it much but 1 helmet and 2 helmet are both worse than 1 helmet + luggage. I think this is a sign of front and rear imbalance, front is too hard or too soft for the rear (no preload adjustment on the front) hence i'm trying to experiment with "putting" preload adjustment on the forks. As miles went on though the wobbling has gotten significantly better, and as it was a new tyre that caused the issues however it was not a fault with the tyre OR pressures. Lowering pressures masked the issue very little bit (I put all the way down to 34 psi in the rear and 30 in the front and it was barely better, but it comes with other downsides such as sluggish handling, worse wear, etc).

I think the only be all end all solution to this is aftermarket suspension, or, making sure that everything is absolutely on point, wheel balance, steering head bearing, geometry, tyres, suspension settings and then the stars will align enough to make the bike stable enough. I'd also try to relax your grip because even when it was very wobbly it only actually started oscillating when I gave it steering input or went over a bump, the effort required to start the wobble tho was extremely small, so even small bumps would start the head to shake at 100+, getting worse with speed and at no point subsiding until you slow down.

I'll be doing a lot of suspension related work in October, save for replacing it, it'll be completely serviced and I will play around with components such as spacers and fork oil. I'll let you know if still interested.

Of course! No doubt I'll be interested in. :038:

Mine is too now but i don't want to be limited everytime I get new tyres, so i need to find the root cause of the issue.

I am running sprint filter p08f1-85. I only use it during the non pollen season. They tend to let in the very fine particles. I don't think this would have an impact on motor life. In the winter and spring I run stock one.

Difference is slightly noticeable full throttle. Not a major change. I think air temperature and humidity will have more impact.

I also changed my suspension completely manual, wasn't for straight line speed  but for cornering. Possibly a upgraded steering dampener may suit your needs more than suspension. Or body position to keep weight on front.

Getting back about aftermarket air filters I finally decided don't changing the stock filters, because examples like this: https://youtu.be/eQz_6wwLDnM
