Just returned from a 3000 mile trip through France to Spain and back. My riding buddy has a Gen 2 XR and on the return leg the OEM T31 front tyre tread wore rapidly down to the wear limit markers.
He decided to get a new tyre and called a French bike shop who had a correct size Road 5 in stock that they could fit as soon as we rolled up. New tyre fitted and we were on our way, great we thought. 3 miles down the road and his dash lights up like a fireworks display - ABS failed, TC failed, Rear Spring Strut failure, cruise control failure.

We stopped to check the front wheel. It had not been refitted correctly and was out of alignment - easy to diagnose as the discs were not running through the middle of the calipers. It was offset to the left, this has fouled the ABS sensor.
I suggested he called Adventure BMW dealer in Limoges and explain the problem. 20 minutes later the bike was in their workshop.
30 minutes after that it was returned with the wheel correctly aligned and a new ABS sensor. This was all done free of charge, so massive shout out to Limoges BMW.
The tyre fitter hadn't realised the front wheel is aligned using the spacer on the left hand fork leg, which is movable unlike on the Gen 1 which butts up against the fork leg. He hadn't bothered to remove the calipers so undid the left fork spacer pinch bolts to move the spacer and allow the removal of the wheel, not realising it should not be removed.
Over several beers that evening we read the owners manual and it says in capital letters don't remove the left spacer!
Moral of the story is RTFM! Ideally download the owners manual in the appropriate language and give it to the fitter!
