    Givi top box fitting issues

Hi I'm having issues fitting a Givi top box - V47 NN - to my XR.

I have fitted the bike specific mounting plate but the top box won't latch on to it. I suspect that the four cushion discs are preventing it from latching correctly. I saw a review on Sportsbikeshop page where a chap had a similar problem and said he removed the discs to solve the problem.

I have had a chat with Sportsbikeshop who said they would check with Givi and get back to me. However, I don't think Givi are the most helpful firm to deal with.

My problem is I don't know how to remove the discs without destroying them and I don't want to cut them off, the box still not fit or rattle like hell and then I won't be able to return the fitting plate.

Just wondered if anyone on here has had the same problem and how they resolved it.

I had the same issue with mine when bought it from new, my plate has 4 plastic hollowed out discs with rubber grommets within, I kept taking a small piece out of the grommets with a Stanley knife but in the end I had to remove the grommets completely and the Gigi box latches in place and nice and tight, I have 2 friends with exactly the same plate/box and they never had any issues ?

Must be the particular Givi box.  I've got a trekker aluminium one and it went straight on the same plate.

Is this Gen 1 or 2? I have just put the Givi adapter plate onto the BMW rear rack/grab handles  to fit my V47NN and it fits fine.

Hi Guys many thanks for sharing your experiences with me....looks like Givi aren't as good as I thought they were... :001:  Having seen Colin's response I think I will unsheath the Stanley knife and cut the heads off the cushions.  I'll let you know how I get on.

    Many thanks

There are two heights of rubber cushions.

I lost one cushion when the topbox caught it and pulled it out.  Not sure what happened to the second one.

BUT - you do need something.   Buy a cheap sponge from ASDA and slice it into 1" thick pieces.  Place a slice between the topbox and plate - towards the rear of the plate.

OK so today I sliced off the two discs at the rear of the plate and hey presto the box clicked into place and is a nice snug fit.....thanks again for all the advice....

I have also fitted evotech bar ends and they have definitely improved the mirrors which now longer blur..result.

Also fitted MRA screen -without the spoiler. Definite improvement over stock screen and looks great
