Is this normal for BMW atm

My 5/2021 XR can't find neutral lately.  Annoyingly Arden BMW can't even do a diagnosis check until 22nd November. Have others found that this is the new normal for BMW?

If you purchased the bike off them i’d Say yes, if you didn’t i’d Say no, cuz in the current situation and from inside knowledge of the bike trade, dealers are looking after customers who have looked after them.

If you did buy it off them..with Covid and staff shortages all things are possible but even then Nov 22 is stretching it.

I would write to BMW asking if there is a dealer that can help you more promptly as you are worried about this serious safety issue😊

Both my 04/2020 and 08/2021 manufactured bikes have/had trouble finding neutral. Our local dealers are quoting between three and six weeks for a space in their workshop, so your experience doesn’t appear to be unusual.

Its unbelievable really how poor this service is ? People have paid a lot of money for a better quality (?) motorbike that has a fundamental fault and yet one accepts that it will take BMW six weeks (in winter?) to book it to fix.......its really not acceptable and BMW should know this not condone it.

Thank you for your responses. I did buy this and my Gen1 from this same dealer but I am still being made to wait and the wait is only for a diagnosis. There will be another delay before they try to fix anything.

That is a bit weird especially as it’s a Monday. I might understand it if it was a Saturday. I usually book my bikes service on a Saturday and always do that well in advance. Maybe they are suffering from a bit of a staff shortage, it’s going around and is particularly acute in the south east….everything is less reliable than it used to be for a number of well noted reasons.  Think you need to look elsewhere.

I’m having the same issue with my 2019. I’d be interested in hearing if others had this issue and what the dealer did to fix it

BMW bikes are great on the road, have lots of technology that works in real world, are fun to ride, but when it comes to reliability and customer servive there are probably in the bottom of the list along with some Italian brands. The last 6 months my 2020 XR was in the shop for 3 months waiting for diagnoses and parts to ship from Germany for a faulty quickshifter. I am fed up with them.

Just to put this into context: About 4 or 5 people have now said that they have trouble finding neutral out of the thousands of bikes out there. I would not call this a fundamental fault.
If you wanted BMW to have mechanics standing by to attend to every little thing immediately, then I suggest that your bike would be twice as expensive to buy.
There is a good chance that difficulty in finding neutral is down to clutch adjustment. It can even be caused by using the wrong spec engine oil.
