    My XR feels sluggish

I had a 2000 1397 Busa with a 1/4 turn throttle.  I loved that bike, had tall handlebars so I didn't have to be in racing position.  I decided I wanted somthing a bit more flickable so I purchaced a 17 Tuono and race flashed it.  Loved the motor in that bike, but I had to grab a fist full of throttle to make it go.

With the XR, it feel's like a scooter in 1st gear.  Even if I grab a fist full of throttle.  I removed the cat and intalled an RB Unit, but still doesnt seem to help.  I know on the Busa they killed the timing in 1st gear(easily added back).  Does BMW do something similar and if so how do I get rid of it?  Is there a TRE or a setting I can remove?

you do not say what year your XR is, but regardless I believe that the throttle is restricted in the lower gears(1/2/3). There is no setting on the bike to remove this, but it can be fixed with a flash.

I have a 2018 and cant get near full throttle in 1st gear unless I want to be staring at the sky....and 2nd is just as bad...but Im not running a stock tune.

Even stock 1st gear is sky time in Dynamic Pro, if not careful even in Dynamic the front comes up quick. In 2nd gear dynamic pro is still twitchy, going over humps wheel comes up even in 4th if you're near the peak power, that was all stock. I now run a 44t sprocket which noticeable tamed it down a little but then the Black widow exhaust brought it back up again.

My 2016 XR was awesome in Dynamic and an uncontrollable beast in D-Pro. Been racing and riding dirt/pavement since 1972. D-Pro on 2016 XR was scary! My 2019 was definitely a tamer beast in dynamic. Motor wouldn't com alive until 7K rpm. D-pro was about the same on 2019 XR. BMW tends to release models and then tames the motors after a few years because of potential liability is my guess.

My 2013 K1600GTL was a screamer at all rpm's too. My 2018 GTL was definitely tame'r down low than the 2013.

    What year is your XR?

From your other posts it seems you have a Gen 1 bike. Do you know if the bike came with standard sprockets? Maybe the previous owner changed sprockets to lower revs at touring speeds?

I have a Gen 1 bike and don't feel it is a slouch but YMMV. My bike has standard sprockets as I fitted new ones with a new chain a few months ago.

The other thing is the Dynamic Pro plug. Do you have this as an option in the mode menu?

She's a 2018 XR.  I am in Dynamic Pro mode and once I am on the freeway and have the RPM's up, I am good.  The Busa and Tuono felt much different down low.

maybe you need to recalibrate - the 'busa had cubes and the Tuono a V configuration that maybe gives a torque advantage in the lower rev ranges.

first time I rode an XR I was not a fan. It was a service loan bike with standard height. A bit too tall for me and I was used to big twins.

Since 2018 I have owned a lowered XR made in 2016. I really like the bike but I have to adapt to the bike as it is very different to my boxer twin R1200RS. On the XR I change gear more and it works best if you keep the revs over 6k. The XR won't lug around a tight corner in 3rd gear like the RS but get the gear right and it will exit the corner at a faster rate of knots.

Ride the bike you own, not nostalgia for those of the past!
