Gen 2 - Revving of Engine at Start Up
on: October 31, 2021, 12:52:39 PM
Just so sick of the revving of my bike when it starts, or even when the engine has been turned of for 10 minutes or more. When out for a ride with others I regularly have to explain why my bike does this and that its not actually faulty, and have to wait for around a minute before I drive off.
Has anyone had any success in getting BMW to remove this awful feature -just asking as my bike is in for its 6k service next week. I note that its only the S1000 engines that do this:087:

Idk I'd much prefer this feature than having to sit there like a dong holding the revs up to let the bike warm up or simply wait longer. It already takes about 5 minutes for temps to get up to 40c, even a little revs make it much faster.

On the Gen 1 it warmed up quite happily as you rode it which was fine as long as you didnt over rev it before it was up to operating temp. And you do have the warnings on the TFT with the Gen 2

It's probably inconsequential but i have a little personal rule of never riding off until it's at least 40°C. but if possible i'll wait until it's 60°C that's where "operating temp" starts at for this bike. Just my personal take on it, it's cold load that causes a lot of wear, not revs alone.

But manuals for BMW bikes have for many years said do not sit and warm the bike up, ride it with some load to warm up quicker.

I've never seen or heard of that anywhere at all. All i'm saying is there is a reason racing teams warm up the bikes on stands, in neutral with preset "rev patterns". I'm not gonna go tinfoil hat about it because as i said it's likely inconsequential but cold starts are the most wear intensive part for an engine's operation and putting load on the engine increases forces between surfaces, revving the bike in neutral puts very little load on internal components, that said u still don't need to redline it.

I agree, most useless thing invented by BMW ever. I now start my bike in 1st to avoid that awful clunk.  Brentune has a solution. But then I have no faith in Brentune. They provide a solution based on the Italian Dimsport MyGenius. Kind of funny, there seem to be only two companies in the world doing this.  Both Italian. The other one is Alientech.

LOL...40C..??  :008: We often get ambient temps well in excess of 40C here in summer....So our bikes are already up to that temp before we even start the engine.. :745:

Yea and that's fine then imagine people in Saudi already start at 60°C, especially if it's out on the sun

As I mentioned in previuos posts- Got the Bren Stage 1 Tune for my 2021 XR Sport. Had nothing but, problems with stalling. Hot/Cold 1st/ 2nd/ 3d- It did not matter. XR would stall out if I pulled in on the clutch when stopping. BT sent me another tune and experienced even worse stalling & now had bad backfiring. BT could not figure it out so, I sent the hand held unit back and they refunded my purchase. Really liked of the exhaust valve being open all the time, no slow RPM's at start up and bike seemed a bit quicker.

Was able to get ride of all the stalling issues with my 911 WiFi.

Salem, please let me know if there is some other company that provides a similar service with similar modifications like Bren Tune that you like/ have purchased.

Best,

Doc :084: :084:
