    Box interchangability

Hi, I am new to BMW bikes and confused about the panniers/top boxes.

Could I trouble for these answer?

    1) Will a GEN1 top box fit a GEN2 bike (both using BMW plate)?
    2) Are all BMW 30L top boxes the same?
    3) Are all BMW lock swap kits all the same?

    Thank you!

Not sure about all but the Gen 1 box doesn't go on the Gen 2 rack unless you modify it, but the Gen 2 box does go on the Gen 1 rack

How big a job is modifying the Gen1 to fit Gen2   :084:  :187:

OP is looking at buying my Top Box..  :028:

    Is Gen2 2020 and after?

Will the Gen1 plate fit the Gen2 bike.. and do I need to remove said plate to fit the givi plate ?

Hopefully I'll answer my own questions later when I get home, have some pie and mash and head to the man cave..

Afaik the Gen 2 plate is 1 piece not like the Gen 1, it's not a big job at all, just gotta take a grinding wheel to that stupid hump in the Gen 2's rack, has no function aside from BMW being able to charge you for another box... You can make it look pretty after grinding it down with a little bit of sandpaper then heat gun on the area, I think there are some more delicate methods though but that's the most common one i've seen

I took my Gen1 49Ltr Genuine BMW case and fitted it to my Gen2. As Antares says, you have to remove the little pyramid bit that sticks up on the Gen2 rack and then they are interchangeable. I had a two minute wrestling session with it after to see if I could dislodge it but it sits well, and its now been on some fun rides without dropping off  :015:
