    iPhone camera issues after mounting
    on: December 06, 2021, 06:30:11 pm

I had read about potential problems with the iPhone camera due to vibrations from mounting on your bike. I had no issues with previous iPhones mounted to my Multistrada with a RAM X-mount. I am using the same setup on my XR but I also added some thick rubber between the handlebars and base of the RAM mount. Recently, I noticed that my camera photos are coming out blurry, especially in low light conditions and wondered if this could be due to mounting it on the bike. When I googled this, it appears that lots of people with the iPhone 11 have camera issues that are not motorcycle related. Anyone have a similar problem and, if so, what did you do about it? I hate to have to upgrade my phone and then have it happen all over again.

    Cheers

More than likely - bike vibration related.

If you insist on using a phone with the particular image stabilisation unit on it - I would use dense foam sponge of around 1/2” thickness.

I’m not sure how you make that aesthetically-pleasing, but I think the chance of scamming Apple for a new phone is diminishing or gone.

I guess we'll see. I have an appointment with the Apple Genius bar tomorrow and see what they say. The weird thing is that videos are fine

    pcv57,

Well known vibration effect from the BMW XR.

Causes the photo's to be blurry except in potrait mode. Apple sent out a message stating they will no longer cover damage to the iPhone from moyorcycle vibration (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212803 ).
Hope you have insuance on your iPhone if it is damaged beyond repair...like somebody running over it in a truck??

The Vibration Dampner with the QuadLock works fine with the iPhone (https://www.quadlockcase.com/collections/shop-mounts/products/vibration-dampener?variant=32819777372235 ).

Please do not ask how come I know all this data...

    Best,

Like I said, I had no issue :003: :003: with the same mounting on the Multistrada. That’s kind of a bummer. The Apple support tech asked if I was using a mount and I said no. It will be interesting to see what they say at the store
I saw the quadlock setup but need to investigate a bit more. It was pricey but not as pricey as a new iPhone :(

Mine is mounted on a QuadLock mount with their vibration damper, onto the bar where the GPS would be. No issues so far.

I also had no issues with a handlebar RAM mount on my Multi, but the multi is a big V-Twin and no doubt the vibrations are different.

The Apple store did fix my iPhone camera but charged me $80 because it was out of warranty. It was the camera sensor and was probably due to vibration from the bike. I checked out the Quad Lock site but it's a little confusing to determine what I really need. If I buy the case, does that stay on the phone even when I'm not on the bike? When I priced it all up, it was $120 for a phone mount.  :003:

I did see where I could buy an 1" ball adapter for the QuadLock system so I can use my Ram mount with the vibration damper. Adapter, case, and damper ended up being about $70. Sold! If I had done this to start with I would have saved myself a few dollars. I guess it's better than a new phone.

    Cheers

My bike had the GPS prep on it but I had no intention of using it, so I removed the cradle. At that point, I bought the QuadLock case, mirror mount and dampener bundle for the princely sum of $90. There is a photo of my setup on the photos site somewhere.

Solution: Wunderlich USB box & SP Connect vibration module

    Hi,

I had my Iphone 11 repaired twice under warranty because of the same issue.
On my Gen 2, I have the GPS oem cradle, but use it with a Wunderlich USB charging box combined with the SP Connect Vibration module. Works like a charm and my camera remains in perfect shape:

It also charges the Iphone perfectly.

    Break a leg,
