    rocker arm recall 2021

Man did I just get some bad news.  Took my new 2021 XR to the dealer to find out there is a new recall on my bike to replace the whole upper end of the motor.  I guess the rocker arms are suspect and without doing the recall the whole motor will blow.
I have to take my bike back in and they will have to tear it apart then wait for parts from Germany to complete the recall/rebuild.
They thought it will take a month.  I really love the bike but now I have a bike that will no doubt lose resale value.

I wonder if there is any recourse to just get a whole new bike?

If you have a 2021 or close to it, I would call your dealership to see if your bike is effected before you blow your motor.

    HI,

I have just checked on the website for my bike in UK and all is clear.

I just checked my VIN thru the website you provided and got this message:

There is an open technical enhancement on this vehicle. Please go here to book an online appointment for your vehicle selecting "service as required" or contact your local retailer here for more information. Enhancement code 0011490000.

Just FYI for all those concerned

@mdesjard I think they are doing you right by replacing before any potential failure, so not entirely sure why your residual value would diminish. I think the only cause for concern really is the length of time that 'we' are left without bikes when these recalls happen.

Yikes. Entered the vin for my 2021, and nothing as far as a recall. However, I went through this with my K16 as well, and entered my vin again a month later and sure enough, transmission recall. My advice to all is to give the mother ship a little time to add to the data base of effected bikes.

It's odd the old engines had similar to this issue at the very start of production. My bike's valvetrain is super loud but when I was doing valves on mine everything looked perfect, engine runs perfect, so who knows.

I still have my 2010rr and I remember  the rocker and cam wear on the early RRs
I was nervous enough that I paid my dealer to check them out before the warranty ran out, they where fine BTW

My XR is a 2021, not sure if this recall affects the 2020 as well

From what I understand, some of the metal of the parts inside the upper portion of the motor are harder metal than other parts and causing softer parts to wear early.  It seems 2000 miles is where the motor reaches the wear point that the motor blows. I was told there are 2 known motors blown in my area alone, both right at the 2000 mile mark.  Mine has 1000 miles and sits in the shop waiting parts.  Mine was caught before any damage was done.  CHECK YOUR VIN!
