Hi there,
My name is Zac just 20 mins north of New York City and I am very close to getting a '21 XR. My current main ride is a '19 1250 GS and I will be trading in my '16 S1000 R for the XR if it all works out. I am in my mid 30's and I always wanted an RR but kept making sensible choices like an '09 Harley Fatbob (which was my first bike) and then a single R with high mileage but well-cared for in '18. Then I fell in love with 1250GS after taking the Offroad training at the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina right before COVID. I kept the R to trade in for the newer RR but the more BMW demos I attended last year and this, the RR fell out of favor as I am 6'1 and didn't particularly enjoy the crouched ergos. However, the inline 4 is amazing and XR wasn't even on my radar until I randomly test rode and boy, what a wonderful bike....
Looking forward to learning and contributing to this forum once I get the bike.
Cheers!

Welcome Zac. Like many of us here, I find the XR a great balance of RR like performance and sustainable riding position.

So finally brought it home in sub-zero weather
Out with the old and trusted single R to the good looking XR. Unfortunately we will be stuck with bad weather for the near term so all I could possibly do is just look at it in the garage. My wife thought my 1250 GS Hp just had a baby sitting right next to it.

Congrats, looks great. I am from Chicagoland waiting for my 2022 M Sport. My only pardon to BMW for the long delivery is also the weather
. Hopefully I will get her by Spring? I know we cannot ride now but do you find the pillion position good for 2/3 hours two up rides? Thats my only concern.
Thanks
Jay

The color scheme on the 22 M sport is slightly different but I like both. Is yours enroute on a ship or waiting at a dealership for you to pick up? Mine was picked up close to Pittsburgh so it was a bit far but if the weather were to hit 50s, I would have opted to ride it back but it was in single digits.
For your pillion question, I have test ridden this exact bike last month for about 100 miles and I have demo'ed other Gen 2 XRs last year for longer periods. The OEM seat locks you into position and while this is very comfortable from a highway touring standpoint, this wouldn't work well for me on twisties or on a track as the sides of the seat dig into my thigh and I can't comfortably move from side to side. I would have to get a second seat, may be a Sargent seat (cheapest option), BMW M-Seat or Wunderlich or perhaps send this seat to RDL for a sports seat conversion instead of their day long verison.

I just booked couple of weeks ago and dealer's initial estimate is March, with a clause that it could be longer due to the pandemic conditions
Yep I am aware of the fully white with alternating graphics on either side for the 2022 M Sport scheme (I have seen few videos and pictures) and I really like it. I will see how the OEM seat goes (I have ordered the low susp, low seat version since I am not so tall and uncomfortable with regular height ones). Probably I could settle with an aftermarket one or a custom seat job.
Do you have any YT videos of your demos? I am very much interested in your feedback on 2 up riding. We do occasional rides and pillion comfort, if not as good as a GS, is also important.
Thanks
Jay

My bad, I just completely skipped over the "pillion" part and my comment was just on the rider's seat. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on who you ask), my wife has no interest in riding pillion which gives me a lot of freedom when riding and chase that occasional red corvette or just spirited riding through mountain roads.
Mine is also a low suspension bike but I picked this up with a few thousand miles on it at the BMW dealer. However, I am 6 ft but I didn't want the bike to be "too tall." I also have a standard height 1250GS and I wanted something closer to the single R profile where I can take this to the track. This should tip in nicely with the low center of gravity but I know I will have to upgrade to the M-rearsets to avoid scraping the pegs.
