Just saw this thread. Started reading from the start, and felt real bad. Towards  the end I was actually relieved (as if it were my bike) to note it was the mirror.
2 things from my side:
1. An old trick I learnt back in the 80s was to use a screwdriver like a stethoscope to identify the source of any clatter or unusual sounds….
Is it something that is still in vogue??

2. Isn’t any huge such repair bill covered by the insurance??

Regards W.

I do the stethoscope trick too, it's good but as i mentioned i didn't run the engine.

And no insurance doesn't cover mechanicals in the UK, maybe some addon to comprehensive but definitely not standard on most policies.

I've been reading this with interest too, pleased about the outcome.

I had a Gen2 Factory Tuono that let go just as the speedo was showing 161mph, coming out of Honfluer, France..  bottom end went south. Not fun  :005: neither was riding pillion on my mate's Tuono  :110: all the way back to the UK..

Weird about the mirror though, that's a first for me..  :084:

Someone mentioned having to get multiple pairs of mirrors due to the glass coming loose but to be fair that was the side I dropped the bike in and the mirror probably slightly touched ground.

Apologies for not making it for Sunday,  hope you had a good day out  :028:

We didn't make the ride at the weekend. Waiting for my Brother to give me another date for him to collect the Tiger..  :084:

I'll give you the nod when it's happening, just in case you fancy a ride out..  :028:

In future posts if someone says they have engine noise. You can advise them to check the mirrors first with confidence.  :821:

Differential blueing on the gear wheel is a bit worrying, but otherwise-  I am reminded of this.   :046:

Antares, you give us all hope. If someone who has the knowledge and confidence to take an engine apart can miss a rattly mirror, then a not so technically minded person such as myself feels a lot better, and happier about making mistakes with my own low grade work on the bike! Thanks!
