    DRL problem help please
    on: January 23, 2022, 05:53:31 pm
    January 23, 2022, 05:53:31 pm
    Hi peeps,
I have a 2018 XR and today I noticed that when I’d been out for a ride I washed and garaged the bike, after about 4-5 mins after switching the ignition off, no lights left on at all….. the front DRL came on and stayed on.
This has never happened in the past, no matter what I do the light comes back on again after a few minutes.
I’ve recycled the ignition numerous times but always the same thing happens.
I’ve tried turning off the DRL in the settings menu but still after a few minutes it comes back on.
Can anyone advise me please as to what’s going on.
I envisage a flat battery (Lithium) by morning
    Many thanks
    Denzle

Update….. in the end I disconnected the live battery wire then reconnected it again and it seems to have worked.
I haven’t tried recycling the ignition in case it starts the problem again. It’s too bloody cold to be messing around in the garage any longer, I’ll try it again tomorrow.
But any advise would be great, thank you

Ignition switch is known to be a bit fragile on the Gen-1's.

First thing first....you do have a lithium charger?  and I assume you left it on charge over night?

Re the rest, you have two options with these bikes, either run to the dealer with the slightest glitch or buy a GS-911 to find out what is going on.

Can’t help with the garage...but can advise that life is a lot easier with a garage same temp as the living room 😀

Well, I still can’t get to the bottom of this problem. I’ve tried going through the menu and turning DRL off, all to no avail.
Could it be the ambient light sensor or do you think it’s more likely to be ignition switch related ?
I had a mechanic put 911 on the bike to see if there were any faults thrown up….. nothing at all.
I have to momentarily disconnect the live terminal on the battery to get the light to go out and not come back on.
Anyone had the same problem ?

I have a Denali Cansmart fitted, that is powering a sound bomb horn, a pair of spotlights, brake lights and a dashcam.
Non of these accessories are on when ignition is off, but the Cansmart has a green light on as I believe it should.
When the ignition is switched off, everything powers down as it should, then about 5 or so minutes later the DRL comes on.
I’ve gone through the onboard menu and can’t find anything amiss.
    I’m totally flummoxed

Sorry, I can't help with your problem, well not directly anyway.

I have the Hex Ezcan fitted to my 2017 bike, similar to your set up but it powers 2 pairs auxiliary lights, soundbomb & an extra brake light.

Lower auxiliary lights are close to the indicators so I have them turn off when I indicate, they also alternate with the hazard waring lights. Funny thing is, if I switch the ignition off while the hazards are working I can't turn them off with the switch it's like the switch just doesn't work, so I have to turn the ignition on, hazards off, ignition off. Hazards work ok when turned on/off without the ignition.  :087:

My point is, I suppose, the hex or in your case, the camsmart, might have a part to play in your problem.  :084:

disconnect the cansmart - general principle of all electrical faults is to remove any modification and see if the problem is resolved

maybe the cansmart is not quite so smart...
