    And another new rear shock....

My 2017 XR failed it's MOT (The annual inspection at ~70,000 miles).  "Negligible damping in the rear shock absorber".  No leaks visible.
This will be the 5th? replacement (lost count).  This one lasted 14,000 miles.  This shock is outside the BMW 2 year new parts warranty, so I'm claiming on the BMW extended warranty. I will have to pay £100 excess, this will give me another 2 year warranty on the shock.

I contacted BMW warranty to see if they would pay for a replacement from Tractive Suspension as it's slightly cheaper and far better quality!  No, only BMW parts can be used when a part fails. (Service parts can be pattern parts of the same quality).

Could we get some background to how, where and with or with a pillion, luggage etc. please  :001:

I find it worrying that you have had so many issues, I have a 2017 XR, so I'd like to understand what's causing the issue.. :084:

Unless of course you're doing Evil Knievel style stunts on it in your spare time..  :008:  :164:

For everyone who has had zero problems with suspension - there will perhaps be the odd one with three problems requiring renewal.

But - to have someone with 5 renewals is extreme, unless there is some other contributory factor, I feel.

Type of use or some glitch in the electronics?

If you were feeling flush, with a highish mileage XR - it might be a plan to swap out the OEM shock for a Tractive one (while OEM still works)

Return the OEM before selling/trading in - and recoup what you can for the Tractive unit.

Perhaps a big commitment though!   :087:

Sorry - I was meaning in general, rather than you in particular.

I do about 15,000 miles year in the UK and Europe.  Never carried a pillion, just SHAD luggage system 3-4 times a year.  Most of the time in ROAD mode.
Riding from end of March to late November - never when the roads have been gritted.

I ride it and clean it and have it serviced, that's it.
