Just about to buy the XR - late Gen 1 or early Gen 2?

    Hello all,

I'm on the verge of trading in the V-Strom 1050XT for a used XR, but have seen the odd mint, late Gen 1 XR and am wondering, if it's still a good buy, considering an early Gen 2 is only fractionally more to buy?

    Thanks for any advice.

Read this and it'll be as clear as mud...  :008:

Coming from a V-strom to any XR is a big leap forward (in my opinion) but I guess that's tempered with what it is you want from a bike :187:

Cheers. The V-Strom does everything well and I trust it completely; it's faultless, it just gets out-handled by Tridents and out-gunned by 765's.

Yep, an XR will solve your problem, either one.  :028:

From the thread you posted, The Gen 1 is perfect for me, Gen 2 is good for her.

    Think I've decided.

    Thanks.

Hi Ed I've recently moved from a Honda crosstourer to a 2018 xr se sport largely because I needed to get a bike that was lighter and more agile. The fact that it goes like stink is a welcome bonus.
My 2018 is immaculate and has the benefit of a few more horses plus some anti vibe measures.
I have also added bar ends which stopped the mirrors blurring and fitted a mra screen. Would highly recommend both mods.
Other than that the bike is fabulous. Quickshifter is ace, gearing and engine simply astonishing.
If you haven't bought yet have a thorough test ride and include some bumpy roads because the suspension will be a lot firmer than your current bike.
    Have fun

Thanks Scribbler, I've already picked it up. It's a Gen 1 2020 Sport SE Triple Black. It's BMW Approved, came with crash bars, Evotech bar ends and rad guards. I fitted a Shad SH39 top box as well as removed the satnav cradle and fitted a Garmin Zumo XT.

    It's fantastic 👍
