Major service and valve clearance check costs :(

Now when I bought my BMW I knew servicing would be expensive, but my poor credit card wasn’t prepared for todays quote from my local dealer for 18k service. 2018 Gen 1 XR, oil, filter, spark plugs, air filter clean (I've got a sprint filter) fork oil and valve clearance check £831.

I appreciate it’s a lot of work to undertake, I may swap the bike next year so a decent dealer service history is sadly important.

I guess I am just suprised at the overall
Cost, my old triumph 1050 sport was circa £600 for same amount of work.

The XR is really not more expensive than any other bike,  If you do the service yourself you'll find it's extremely affordable. Apart from that BMW dealers do have a fairly high hourly rate, true, but you can always go to an independent shop that does BMWs. Actual consumables are no more expensive than any Japanese bike. And also don't forget the Tiger Sport 1050 had 12k mile valve clearance intervals and the 12k doesn't include forks, keep in mind fork service is a at least 1hr labour in itself and most of the valve service comes from them being buried so deep under the bike and for this bike interval is 18k, so in essence it's actually 33% cheaper in the long run if you're particular about dealer service.

If you're anywhere near Yorkshire, Steve at Rainbow Workshop is brilliant.  £439 for that service from him.

I'm in Cross-gates, Leeds and work in Dewsbury so this is perfect for me.  :001:  I didn't know about this guy.. I'll certainly be giving him a call. Thanks for the heads up..  :028:

Yeah, Steve is great.  He did my major service at the end of last season.  I'd used Paul, at The Workshop, near York, previously.  But he was getting expensive & wanted £550 for that service.  Steve did it for £400 as I didn't need a new panel air filter (have a Pipercross one fitted that just needed cleaning).
I've actually just messaged Steve for a quote to replace my chain & sprockets.  Just about to order a set...

I think I might have that service coming up soon on mine. Time to look for independents!
