Rattle on the left side of the engine

Afternoon all, purchased my s1000xr 2016 a couple of years back and been enjoying it ever since. last year it started making a noise on the left hand side of the engine like a tappet noise. Found out that the valve clearance hadn't been don so I booked her in to be done. Picked up the bike and the noise is still there and was informed by the main dealer that this is normal on these engines they even had an earlier model in and that was noisier than mine!!
I was wondering has anyone else had the same issue?
I was wondering if I change the oil to a different velocity would it make a difference....

    Thoughts please.....

I went through the whole 5 phases of grief with mine since I got it and over the first 5-10k miles i've had it, until i've finally accepted the fact that the engine is running as happily as ever and it's just simply noisy. Probably down to the fact it has tappets instead of buckets and the engine and casing walls are fairly thin especially vs japanese bikes so sound is not dampened as much. Fresh oil does make a difference but barely so. Probably more to do with placebo. Only other thing that could reduce noise is a manual cam chain tensioner, as the originals can get a bit loud.

To be clear, I'm not saying there is 100% nothing wrong with your engine, you never know, but it is a fact these engines are rattle snakes and are extremely loud mechanically.

I was thinking of using thicker oil in hope to reduce the noise, have you tried that?

Yes and didn't really make a difference.

Makes no noticeable difference really....I've always run 10W60 oil in mine and have a manual CCT and it's still a mechanically noisey engine.

    Smithy.

Get some earplugs, some music and put a loud exhaust on it and you won't hear it  :745:
