    D-ESA selection error
    on: May 19, 2022, 10:00:17 am

    Morning everybody,

I wonder if anyone has encountered this error before and can shed some light on it. My dealer has never seen it, nor can offer a solution yet.

I have found only one other mention of it on the internet on the r1200r forum.

S1000XR TE K69 with the D-ESA so the pre load setting (rider, rider and pillion, rider with luggage etc) is always in AUTO mode. I can’t adjust this and that’s how it should be I understand.

But I can adjust the suspension between ROAD and DYMANIC totally independently from the overall Riding mode (rain, road, dymanic, dynamic pro).

I can adjust this on the fly while riding with the button on the left hand cluster with the shock absorber logo.

But last week when trying to switch the suspension between road and dynamic an error flashed up “Unable to adjust DTC due to incorrect riding mode selected”

…I’m not trying to adjust the DTC….(I can happily turn the DTC on and off no issues)

It does this intermittently so going to be hard to replicate for the dealer, but over the phone with them I think they have misunderstood and explained to adjust pre load the bike has to be stationary. This would be the rider, pillion, luggage adjustment which on my bike is automatic.

Any ideas amongst your combined knowledge?

Only thing i can think of straight away is maybe a sticky button causing the TC button to be pressed rather than the Suspension.

Pretty sure mine does the same. Tried it the other day whilst riding to swap between dynamic and road and it came up with that message twice and on the third attempt changed mode. Not sure if it just needs to be in a certain position to change?
Will have to try it again  and see if I can replicate it

Showed the dealers tech’s the other day. Not something they’d seen before so are having the bike in one morning in a couple of weeks to do a software update (which apparently helps with the iPhone-tft Bluetooth connectivity which I am also having lots of drop outs with).

If that doesn’t sort it they will either replace the selector button or raise a case to BMW for their best guess.

Will let you know what happens!

How old is your bike? I got mine in March so I think it’s on the fairly recent software (will have to check the version, pretty sure it starts 2022) and haven’t had any issues with Bluetooth connectivity

it will do this if the suspension is moving greater than a set amount. Once the suspension is less active, you can change the mode.

Got mine in April. I’d be amazed if it’s not already on the latest software? But worth a try non the less.

The drop outs with the Bluetooth happen when I’m running the bmw connected app. If it’s just my phone to the tft for calls/music then it’s rock solid. But turn by turn nav is useless at the mo!

A logical reason I guess, but wouldn’t explain why it throws up the error while stationary too

You can get the dash software version from the dash itself. The main changes in the last update were due to bluetooth connectivity issues (mainly with iOS).
