    Breakdown cover

I have just hit 3 years old and now looking for breakdown cover. I will only use the bike through summer so was wondering what cover you guys use?

I just had a quick nosey on the AA site and it looks like I can get cover for £9.30 a month by direct debit and cancel it anytime with 30 days notice. Is that correct? Any one already doing this?  Pretty pointless paying £65 and more for 12 months cover when I only ride 4 or 5 months.

I've Had RAC breakdown cover included in my insurance for the last few years, this year's premium even covers Europe..  :028:

If I were you, I'd consider taking the monthly option and cancel when your insurance is due, then buy insurance with breakdown cover included.  :084:

I have 3 vehicles all beyond the 3 year warranty with breakdown so want personal cover. I also wanted Euro cover for 1 vehicle at a time.

I got some quotes from Moneysupermarket and was offered single vehicle annual policies including Europe for my XR at £43 a year. Never heard of the companies. Scrolled down and for an extra tenner I can have the same with LV Britannia, who often top the customer service lists. Click through and for another £13 I can add the personal cover in the UK. For under £70 I have personal UK cover and 1 named vehicle in Europe. I can change the vehicle in Europe for an £8 fee. I am also covered if I am a passenger in someone else's vehicle.

This works out at better value than getting extensions to my vehicle insurance e.g. Bemoto want £40 for the Titanium package which would just cover my XR for Euro breakdown.

I've used Green flag for the past 21 years and they have always gone above and beyond the few times bikes have gone wrong "punctures mostly".

I did have a radiator go in France on a Z1000sx on a Saturday afternoon tGreen flag sorted an Hotel, car and getting the bike to a Kaw shop and sorted ordering a new rad within 2 hours!  :020:
Ok the bike ended up getting shipped back home and we came back on Ryan air.  It was August and France is shut in August so the bike shop could not get a new rad but Green Flag worked very hard helping us out.

My car’s are covered by Green flag as well the way they work is they send the local guy out to you which does two things they have good knowledge of the roads so they can find you off the beaten track and they are close.
I’d rather be laying in the Sun like a cat, than working like a dog for the cash!

It’s RAC for us, I say us because the arrangement we have is it’s US as a couple that’s covered not the bike or car, and have to say having had a bike go belly up 5 miles outside Dover, they were very good in bringing a rental car to us late afternoon and we were back at the port the following morning on another bike, just left the rental car on the drive and who ever came and collected it.

I made the fatal mistake of mentioning this thread to my other half...and been getting my ear bent ever since as she sorts the above out, so much depends on how many vehicles you have cuz things can vary drastically, and in the days when I moved motorcycles for a living I became very popular with mates who had gone the tight arse route and the breakdown company said NO chance i’d Get the call....

She now tells me we have RAC cover both privately and via Carol Nash bike insurance  :164:

A quick check of LV Britannia's site - lists £142 per annum for EU cover.

Or - going for the UK cover (£70) - Personal addition takes that up to  £113 pa. I don't see any facility for adding a named vehicle in Europe?

Did you manage to arrange that on their website, or did you have to phone them?

    Thanks

You missed the bit about Moneysupermarket. I have replied to your PM, thus:

you cannot buy direct, it is a 2 stage process - you have to go to https://www.moneysupermarket.com/breakdown-cover/ - ask for an annual policy with Euro for a single vehicle. Get a quote, Britannia was about 3rd on the list. Select this quote and when you get to the LV website you can add options including personal cover, £13 extra.

I'm only getting 5 quotes for those criteria, and none are LV-Britannia  :003:

    Greenflag, Start, Rescuemycar only.

    Will try some more combinations

I have attached a screenshot from a new quote - LV is the 9th option on the list. Are you scrolling down? I selected  "annual" "home cover" and "euro cover" in the options screens and put in the reg plate of my 2016 bike

Thanks for the elaboration - I'll have a look at it in the morning

Mine states '5 quotes', so that is my limit.
