Used S1000XR with camshaft/timing chain replaced

    Hi all,

As the title says, my body found a 2016 used s1000xr. Seller told us that at 6000 miles and under warranty camshaft and timing chain were replaced due to timing chain noises. BMW dealer verified that through diagnostics (all replacement parts printed and given to us) and told us all good to go and nothing to worry about. the bike has 18000 miles as we speak. Other than that the bike is, like new, condition and asking price is fair enough. Should this replacement be a deal breaker?

    Thank you in advance
    Nick

Most likely not at all, the camshaft noise was probably nothing major to begin with and even the ones with "faulty" camshafts were just hardening failures that caused accelerated wear on the chamshafts, if all related components have been replaced then nothing to worry about.

Thank you Antares.  That’s what i have understood from reading different topics in the forum. Yes, the dealer printed out all the components that were replaced and -by and large - told me the same things as you did.

What Antares said.....if all the offending items have been replaced....you should be good to go. They are a "mechanically noisey" engine to start with... :169:

    Smithy.

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather....not screaming like the passengers in his car..!

I have a '16 with 60,000+ on it, runs like a champ.  Knowing the cam and chain were replaced is a plus, with only 18,000 you should be good for a long time.
