I have a workshop manual for my Gen1. BMW sells them on a CD - it's not printed material, but digital and requires online activation with a serial number, in much the same way you'd need to activate something like Microsoft Office.

It's hard to imagine that they don't have a similar product for the Gen2.

If it helps, the part number for the Gen1 workshop manual is 01 59 8 569 004 and the CD is entitled "Repair Manuals S Models K4x".

Maybe your dealer can use this to find where the workshop manuals are located in the parts database?

I wonder how they can get away with that. They're basically making it mandatory to go to a dealer for service, I don't think that's legal under US consumer laws.

Really, how long ago did you buy it ? Think you'll be pushed to find any in stock anywhere now. My understanding was that once they sold out then that was it.

Mark Barrett made a very good "service manual" for the Gen-1's. I don't think he's going to be doing one for the Gen-2's anytime soon though.

From memory, it was sometime around 12/20 that I bought it. The dealer had to order it for me...

Given that the marginal cost of sale on a digital manual is close to zero, if they've discontinued it then it really is quite abusive - hard to interpret it any other way than that BMW is trying to force you to go to a dealer for pretty much anything.

Frankly, I won't buy a bike if I can't get a workshop manual for it, so unlikely I'll be getting another BMW if this is the direction they're going in.

I'm curious if they're actually not even going to produce a cd. In the US we have consumer protection laws to keep manufacturers from requiring you take your bike to a dealer for service. Can't imagine an independent bike shop doing the work without a manual.

I'm noticing that I cannot get a factory service manual anywhere. I am the type to run something like this up a legal flag pole.
Who do you think I should contact about the legality of this?

Has anyone done their own valve check and if so does Mark's book work on a 2020 is the motor similar enough and are the specs the same as far as valve clearance and torque specifications for crucial items I am looking for an actual proper procedure to do this job
