    2019 XR - Feeling weird?
    on: June 16, 2022, 08:33:49 am

    Went out last night for about 3 hours riding. On the way home around 10 PM, bike started to feel weird, almost like it was icy on the road. I initially thought I had ridden through some oil. I got home and checked the tyres and both are 6 psi low. I fitted Road 6s just over a month ago and have put 900 miles on them since then. Anything else I should check?

    Just a couple of ideas;
    Electric suspension gone off / damping fail?
    Rear axle not tight and moved out of alignment slightly?

    Thanks. I'll have a play with the suspension settings change them up and down see if it improves. I spoke to the tyre dealer and he's very surprised at the pressure drop. Told me to monitor it and if it continues, he will replace them.

    Pretty sure 6psi at both ends will mess with the handling, I had a zrx1200r that was pretty nimble, considering what it was, but just 2 to 3psi down on the front would make it feel a lot heavier and like it resisting turn in.. :087:

    Never ridden the XR with low psi so can't comment from fact but 6 at each end seems a lot, maybe someone else will chime in and confirm or debunk my thoughts.. :084:

    Topped up the tyres using a friend's digital system. Rear was 3.8 psi low, front was 6.2 psi. Did an hour test run and it feels perfectly normal again. Looks like the Road 6s don't like being low on the XR, the difference was really noticeable. I'm going to check them daily for any reduction. The ESA works fine, played with settings and all seemed good. Steering damper moving freely. Hard to check the alignment of the Rear Axle but I watched the wheel removal / tyre change and everything looked kosher.

    Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

    I've found the XR to be more sensitive to tyre pressures than any other bike I've owned, just 3-4 psi low and can really notice it

    No I haven't. The bike has only got 6000 miles on it and it seems to be sorted now that the pressures are back to where they should be.

    With PR5s, I use 3.1 bar in the rear and 2.6 in the front as opposed to 2.9 / 2.5 which feel much better. Put it down to a softer carcass?

    If you’re checking them daily don’t forget they will lose a little air each time you check them just to take that into consideration?
