that's interesting, so it doesn't really look much taller than the 30 liter I have but is a whole bunch wider.

I really like the black cases. Very sharp looking. Did you have them painted?

Nope, when you order your cases request the BLACKSTORM color (https://www.ascycles.com/bmw/2020/S1000XR/Optional%20Equipment%20and%20Accessories%20Motorrad/Touring%20case.html#PartsTable ).

    Best,

Hope these photos help. I really struggled to find photos online which showed the size well but I'm glad I chose this option. Having had side panniers on my last bike I was keen to avoid them for filtering and this and a 20l Lomo bag on the back seat was perfect for 2 weeks in the Alps recently. If you're two up then the side boxes would be useful but I don't think they're needed.

Photos don't always seem to show it well - sometimes it looks huge but to be honest in person it doesn't. I'm not sure how much smaller the 30l one looks next to this one.

Worth noting that the inside isn't perfectly flat as there are a couple of bits that protrude inwards, but it's fine for squeezing non-solid things in there. I only struggled when trying to fit my helmet in with anything else that needed the full width of the box.

I’ve been on a few camping trips and the 30l top box isn’t big enough for me.  I have the side panniers and a dry bag but need more space for food and drinks in addition to rain gear etc. I ordered the 49l and it will be in next week just in time for the next trip. I was concerned it might look too big on the tail but it actually complements the angles of the front fairing of the bike. Appreciate the pics.

If you can get some photos of the 30l next to the 49l that would be useful. Hard to find a comparison online.

As you say, it doesn’t look too big on the back

As soon as it arrives, I will do the side by side comparison.
