    Doubt about LED

Guys, I have Gen2 S1000XR (2021year) and yesterday bought some fog LEDs. Could I install it by myself or in BMW they need to allow it in software first? Does anyone have experience?

Electrical ,Lighting and Wiring....maybe you can re-post the question in that forum and you may get some help 😁👍🏽 If you have separate fog lights you can probably do it ok? I assume that you just need to find a power source that works only when the ignition is on to save draining the battery.

I looked into this as I fancied the genuine BMW Fog Lights. I got such a cracking deal on my 2022 model last September that didn't have them and thought I would just fit them myself a bit latter.

Brought as a complete Fog Light kit with brackets, wiring and switch etc was about £450, and fitting it yourself would save a little but you still need the software activated by BMW  :006:. To ask your dealer buy the kit and have it fitted afterwards is nearer £850   :005:

I was told that sometimes BMW do deals - they recently had a retro fit Fog Light deal for the R1250GS for £500, but not seen one for the XR yet.

My gen 2 came with the OEM lights so I don't have any direct experience, but I added Clearwater Darlas to my gen 1 and used a Hex ezCAN.  Not sure if they make one for the gen 2 though..

Ezcan for me too, Gen1 but can't imagine they haven't sorted one for the Gen2

I'm no genius when it comes to electrics but with the Ezcan and their extra wiring kit I did this to mine and programmed when they come on/go off. The lights mounted to the indicator bolt turn off when I indicate and the top lights flash when the horn is sounded. Their software is a doddle to work with.. Just takes a while to route the wires tidily and securely..  take your time and all will be good.

With the ezcan kit, some half decent lights from amazon, a pair of heavy duty light brackets for the top lights and doing the work myself I reckon  it all came in at less than £400.00

The ezcan runs a sound bomb horn and extra rear brake lights too..  :028:

Bike has done about 3k miles with them fitted, a couple of proper rain storms and some serious hot days.. all good.

the hex ezcan2 is listed as the same unit for gen 1 and gen 2 so when I traded my gen 1 for a gen 2 I moved the ezcan2 over to the gen 2 and it is working fine although I haven't fitted spot lights at this stage.

Thanks, that's good to know.  If I ever sell Gisela I'll move my ezcan and soundbomb over to Anja.  :001:
