Black sludge running down past oil sight glass
« on: July 10, 2016, 11:20:37 AM »
Just been on a tour and whilst away noticed a thick oily sludge that seems to be coming from somewhere at the back of the engine, dropping down from somewhere around the rear shock, past the oil sight glass and staining the engine block.

Any ideas? Gonna have to get it booked in more than likely.

could be right there.  :430:  looks to be from that area, wasn't expecting to be like a paste/sludge but now you mention it.

I should be more chain savvy after about 20 chain drive bikes!

Bloody horrible stuff! :008:

A mate of mine uses a steamer to clean his GSA, I wonder if one would be good for cleaning all the nooks & crannies, including the chain, on the XR?

Funny you should say that as I have a small household Karcher steam cleaner and i use it on the bike occasionally to do just as you say to get into the nooks and crannies.
I do not use it on the chain though
