I'm wanting to paint the plastic side panels on the BMW side cases and it looks like they may be removable? Mine are grey on my white bike and I want to paint them white. Question is whether they are removable? I see one screw, and maybe a couple others. Anyone done this?

    Yes I have, but can't remember how . . . . . . .

If you pull out the rubber seal you will see screws all way around, but can't remember which side that releases

Well even that is encouraging. I feared they could be held on with epoxy or something that would make them impractical to remove. I'm hoping they are just held on with a few screws and a friction fit. Anyone else with insights?

I painted the ones on my RS (almost identical panniers). I eventually got one cover off, had to break the glued on rubber seal, and decided not to repeat this fiasco on the other side, so just used lots of careful masking. Was a lot easier for all the aspects of respraying them!

Yeah. One torx screw on the inside door. Remove it. Panel pulls off when the two press clips release. This is for the Gen II K69 panniers....

When I had my ones painted I did just that I did have a plastic tool to help pop them off as well, easy to pop back on as well just take your time.

My 16 Gen 1 has the K49 panniers, so a bit different. I'm debating trying to get them off, or just tape and mask the hell out of everything. It's an awkward job because of angles and top and bottom sides. Will need to hang the pannier high enough to get under as well as on top of it. Rotate around it. Even if I got the plastic off, this would be true. Wish me luck!

I thought I had brought this thread to a close but see I hadn't. I didn't end up removing those panels and instead taped everything well and just painted it all together. Worked fine and I'm happy with the results. Cleaned, lightly sanded, plastic primed, painted, then sealed.
