1000 miles on Battlax BT016 PRO

Guys, I'm planning a 1000 miles highway trip (Belgrade to Greece - Sithonia) I'm wondering is my battlax bt016pro going to make it since I have 1mm to the marker? I have ordered a Road6 GT, however I wouldn't like to square a new tire that fast.

Any experience would be appreciated, thanks!

The way I "calculate" it is splitting it in travel, and days on location having fun. Those fun days will often require some travel too to get to the best roads, but in order to keep it simple, mainly highway and fast roads  is travel for me, rest is fun

With for me known 6000km tire life if in the twisties only: New tire  6.5 mm thread, marker at 1mm? So 5.5 mm life. Call it 6, that's 1mm per 1000km during the fun days. For travel I double that, 2000km/mm. So if it is 500km to, 500km back, and 1000 twisties I assume 0.25mm to, 0.25mm back, and 1mm twisties, 1.5mm total
Once past the marker the tire goes faster I think that is because there is not enough rubber left  to take up the normal deformation that takes place when the tire hits and leaves the road. The little rubber left is then being deformed excessively

I bought the bike with these and got ~4kkm on them with a pillion. Cannot tell how much it had on them previously.

I think that I've got 2-2.5mm worn for these 4kkm - 90% of riding done with a pilion. And lets say 50% of it were twisties. I suppose that it would manage 2kkm where 1600 will be highway - 150-160kg on it

    My thoughts are simple.
when I take a trip like that, I leave home with a new set of tires fitted. In my opinion, tires are cheap. Especially when we are a long way from home. My advantage is that I have a tire machine in the garage.

I agree with Big Dawg. I wouldn't risk a 1000 mile trip on questionable tires, especially if it rains. My experience with PR tires is that they last a long time so I wouldn't be worried about squaring them off. Put on the new tires, scrub them in and then go have fun on your trip

    Cheers!

Surely the BT16 is an 'old' tyre now?

I like new tyres for the summer tour, and certainly wouldn't be doing some sort of 'calculation' to see if those last few mm of rubber will last.

Too dam right there’s enough scht out there without going looking for it, just a little taken aback that a thread about such should appear what you would assume has experience riders owning an XR.....

These are the pro ones, so a bit newer tire.
Ordered Road 6 GT, so have 2 more weeks to calculate and the new set ready to go 😁
