    ABS light flashing

    Hi,

I had new tyres fitted last week, went for my first ride today. After 20 miles the ABS / warning light came on. It was intermittent, staying on, going off flashing etc. could this be something to do with the tyre change, ie wheel out affecting the ABS sensor or something else?

    Thanks for any guidance

Most likely the cause - possibly damage to one of the rotors?  I'm not sure what the sensor/rotor gap is meant to be, but 4.5-5.5mm sounds right.

Don't see why not.   Spin the wheel slowly with perhaps a plastic rule held in place on the forkleg, and watch to see if the rotor is touching it.

For the gap, just find something that is 5mm thick.   Try the kitchen drawers or even an old USB plug?  Measure it as best you can.

Appreciated, the front is clear, will check the back one.

Update, I read elsewhere that a loose battery terminal might also cause a similar issue. I just found the positive loose. I will trickle overnight and take for a run tomorrow

Thanks for the input, it’s great when you guys help me out 👍

Most of the ABS issues I have seen are either sensor bolt loose, sensor caked with crap, sensor cable buggered/shorted, ABS ring holes filled with crap, etc.  Of course there is the "mounting the front wheel backwards" one, but that wouldn't have taken 20 miles to come on.  :001:

Thanks, I can’t see any build up anywhere but will look again in the morning.

It's way more likely on a dual sport/adv bike, but easy enough to look.

Quick update, after tightening the battery leads I had a 40 mile ride without any warning lights.

    Thanks for the guidance
