    Kick Stand mod for S1000XR

So, I searched, researched, googled, looked, pretty much anything you could think of for lengthening the kick stand because the bike was just leaning too far, BMW literally screwed up to put proper kick stand on S1000XRs

My OCD was eating me, so I put small weld where the kick stand hits and I can successfully say I eliminated about 2-3inches from the top angle. It's much easier now. NO, it didn't compromise the angle of the bike so it falls from the stand. If you ever want to remove it, you can always grind it down to its original spot. Hope this helps people with kick stand issue.

I agree with you that the lean angle on the side stand seems too much and it bothered me too. I took the cowards way out and bought a big "foot " or extender from Cymarc ,in the UK, that does the job nicely but looks less good than the job you have done.....but I also don't have the welding skills 😊

don't know if there are different stands fitted for different years or different countries but Ive never had a problem with the lean angle on my previous 19 plate gen 1 or my 21 plate gen 2.

Mine feels like it has excessive lean too, especially here compared to a bunch of "normal" bikes. At this time i also had fairly worn tyres which you'd think would make the bike stand more upright.. and no, sidestand wasn't in a hole.

Yes, the Mk1 XR does lean more than most bikes, but you quickly adjust automatically and park accordingly.

I'm always a bit wary about welding castings like the side stand/bracket even allowing for less force on it due to the bike being more upright.

I've glued a steel nut into the sidestand. Seems to work.  Earlier I had a wheel balancing weight in there but that material is too soft and is being compressed over time

I did think along those lines, but thought that the glue may part fairly easily?   I guess you have tried it for a decent period?

It has survived 4 months so far,  two holidays in the alps with the bike being trailered to and from. If it falls out. I'll try again, but using two component glue. I prefer not to  hammer something in there.

That's precisely my issue, it feels like the sidestand wants to snap off when parked on level ground, let alone slightly off camber, even with no luggage on. I can't even imagine how some people get on the bike from the pegs with it being on the sidestand purely since my pegs are like 30 degree angle downwards lol...

Agree on welding the casting, but since the bike still has a pretty good lean angle and I'm not dragging the bike on the stand, it's just sitting on it, it's fine.

HOWEVER I do recommend adding an attachment to it, that way its wider at the bottom.
