Hi all! New member here from the SF Bay Area. I commute year round to/from work which is about 60 miles round trip and do some sport touring around the west coast (when time permits). I’ve been riding motorcycles most of my life and have had so many motorcycles from many different manufacturers both Japanese and European, the list would be too long to post! I’ve been looking at adding another sport touring ride to my garage for the last few months, and have been eyeing the S1000XR. Finally took the time to go test ride one, and immediately knew this was the bike I’ve been looking for. The bike I test rode was a new ’21 in Ice Grey with a few hundred demo miles, and liked it so much I bought it. Got a great deal and low BMW financing on the bike!
This is the first BMW inline four motor I’ve owned, as my other two were/are boxer motored, ’97 R1100RS and a ’17 R1200RS. I never had any problems whatsoever with those two bikes and put a tremendous amount of miles on them, so hoping to get the same out of this bike.
So far the only accessories I’ve purchased is the 30L Top Case and TFT screen protector. Thinking the side cases are next. Anyhoo, great to be here and loving the new ride!

Nice bike and congrats! Like you, it’s my first BMW in-line 4 (first BMW motorcycle in general) after always owning many Hondas.
I have owned my gen1 for about 2 weeks and I use it for commuting as well and it’s great. Coworker and I have a ride planned going from San Diego to Yosemite.

Thanks @richierich! Yeah, commuting in the SF Bay Area is no different than LA/SD area and means doing lots of lane sharing/filtering/splitting each way. This bike is roughly the same width as my old R1200RS ~36", and does extremely well for commute duty!
Have fun on your trip up to Yosemite! It's a beautiful time to go, especially since there are no fires!

Congrats on the purchase, and extra Kudos for picking the fastest color. I am in NorCal too, between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Too many great roads here to mention. I don't use mine like you (daily commute on the slab), but I'm sure you'll get your share of twisties. These bikes LOVE to wear out the tire edges before the middle. :-)

Thanks @Hallzeeman! Yeah I love me some good twisty mountain roads, and live quite close to some nice canyon rides. I have to say, I do an annual ride of my favorite route which is Ca108 through Sonora Pass to Bridgeport, Ca. Then south on 395 passing Mono Lake and finally pickup Ca120 at Lee Vining taking it through Yosemite. It's an absolutely beautiful ride I do every year in early July.

CA 4 is an awesome ride, up over the Pacific Grade and Monitor Pass. Starts out in the Bay Area as a freeway. Get past Angels Camp, and it's a two lane, two way raod. By the time you get to the top, it's so narrow and twisty there isn't even a line on the road.

Yep Ca4 is another great ride! I've taken it up to 89 -> 389 south and then hopped on 108 westbound at Sonora Junction. Lots of great riding up your way... So many roads, so little time!!!

on board.. nice ride.
I'm new to BMW, like you, I've had a multitude of brands over the 44 years of road riding, enjoying it a lot. Hoping to rack up many miles in the coming years..
