    Location of DWA controller?

Installing the Denali CAN smart for the aux brake light (why would bmw not put in a dedicated brake light) for a 2020 XR.  Is the DWA controller the connector that sits right in the middle under the seat?[/img]

Just wanted to update this thread from last month in case it helps anyone. I too was trying to find the proper connector and yes, that is the correct connector.

Once again the Denali instructions are incorrect.
I've installed CANSmart on a 2018 R1200RS and now a 2022 S1000XR. In both cases the instructions say the necessary connector is behind the passenger seat in the tail section, which is incorrect for both bikes.

On the XR, I was able to pass the B6 taillight wires up through the passage in the fender for the factory taillights wiring. Took a bit to fish them through to the underseat area but they both fit.

Dual B6s, one on each side of the license plate, are a good supplement to the stock rear lights.

My XR has the factory driving lights so not sure if I'll add anything up front, although seems a shame to have the controller only running taillights.

    Joe,
Thanks for confirming and I had already tried that plug and it fit perfectly so yes, that is the DWA controller.

I too fed the B6 wiring up through the tail without any issue and love the extra brake light.

Question...  you said you connected the dual B6 brake light kit.  Do the two Denalis's sit right below the turn signal lights?  I really don't know why BMW went to a no brake light set up.  Seems stupid.

Like you, I have the SmartCan on and I also have the BMW DRL's installed but since I have the SmartCan, think I'll also hook up D2's fog lights down below attached to the engine guards.  Why not since it's an easy plug and play with the SmartCan.

Yeah the B6s are mounted on the left and right sides of the license plate using Denali offset mounts. I used the same setup on my RS. Bit close to the signals but seems fine.

Will the cansmart from a GS work on the XR? did you transfer from your GS over to the XR?
Just traded my R1250GSA and kept the cansmart and the pair of B6's in hopes that it will work?

Check with Denali, but the big GS is not in the lst of compatible bikes for the Cansmart variant used for the XR.

Saw that on the site also
Kinda thinking no? + the GS has it plugged into the tire pressure monitor not the DWA
Emailed Denali before I order another just to ne sure…. These things are not cheap
