Water pump going bad 2020 XR?

Never seen this before the way BMW done this, I assume this is seeping hole for water pump, weird it goes thru oil pan. So, I assume this is water pump going bad. Anyone replaced it before, is it hard to replace it for 2020+? Or is this normal, just to seep a little?

Welcome to the club!  From what I have seen it's the same as the gen 1 - some leak oil, some leak coolant and some leak both.  I have replaced the pump once on my gen 1 and my gen 2 has leaked oil since delivery.  Still waiting on parts and an appt for the dealer to fix it..  You'll see from our prior discussion on it that it's a much bigger pain to replace than the gen 1.  As you point out...how nice of them to submerge it in the sump to make it easy to get to and replace..  :151:

So, I still have warranty, however I do have Brentuning, would that influence the dealer not to cover it? I'm like 50/50 on going there OR replacing it myself. I do most of my work on everything, so not a big fan someone else working on my bike.

I have no idea if Brentuning will affect their decision to cover it.  Logically, I would think it has nothing to do with it, but I am not a dealer and I know dealers can be very strange and also very different between dealers.  If you read the other thread, I hemmed and hawed about the same decision, but am leaning toward letting them do it when the parts come in.  I might ask about what the protocol is for this kind of thing when the parts come in and I talk to them next - like would they actually just hand over all the parts and let me do it?  I kind of came to the conclusion they are not going to like that idea because they want to get paid for the warranty work by BMW.  That said, I dunno, maybe they will since I have had 3 BMWs?  The lack of a decent service manual also makes me less keen on doing it unless there is already a decent tutorial on it somewhere that has all the torques, etc.  I guess I could use a digital torque gauge to try to reverse engineer all the torques or just use the ones from my gen 1 service manual, but still...  ok, now I've gone rambling again.  Anyway, yeah, tough call...lol.  I obviously still haven't decided either.

I would flash it back simply for the fact that they may update your ECU and overwrite the tune without even knowing it.

Get it done under warranty.   It might not be the last time it has to be addressed, and once you start repairing it yourself - I think you are on your own.

I think I got 2 years warranty on the new parts (water pump on 1st Gen).

This is an excellent point and also factored into my decision to lean toward having them do it..  I would be kind of worried they wouldn't cover it if it happens again since they didn't install it.  Also, during the warranty period it is nice to be able to just make anything their problem which I could see getting a little tougher if I start doing anything beyond basic maintenance myself.  "Oh it's leaking again?  Did you use Bavarian #4 sealant on the gasket and o-ring?" blah blah.  I just don't want to worry about it while I still have a warranty.  Mareng1 is right about the parts warranty and, at least with my dealer, they extended that to parts that I installed.  When I replaced my gen 1 water pump I bought it from them since they matched online pricing and my service manager told me that they would cover it for 2 years so if it leaks again to just let him know and he'd handle the exchange himself.
