Random (though seldom) Stalling when stopping.

2021 that I bought new in early August. 4,700 miles on the clock now.

The bike will sometimes randomly have the engine stop running when approaching a stop. Pull the clutch in to roll to a halt while going maybe 5 mph, and it dies just like it was turned off. Ignition is still "on" of course. Hit the start button, and she fires right up - away I go after the stop sign or traffic light.

Happens infrequently - maybe every 2-300 miles.

Something to be concerned about, or worth getting the dealer involved, so they "can't find anything"? :-)

Basically wondering if this is a "known" malady.

I stalled my '21 a bunch of times the first couple of times I rode it when coming to stops because, apparently, I was pulling in the clutch too soon.  My 18 isn't like that at all so I think it is a gen 2 thing.  I was able to completely stop it from happening by slightly modifying my riding behavior so maybe this will work for you.  Instead of dropping down to 1st and then grabbing the clutch, try dropping down to first and then coasting for a second or two to let the RPMs drop a bit and THEN pull in the clutch.

I, too, have experienced this random stalling on my '21. It's so random that I haven't been able to narrow down the exact sequence of what triggers the stall. So far I've had it happen coming off a highway while downshifting to 1st (with clutch) on the offramp. Have also had it stall while coming to a red light and downshifting (with clutch) to first gear after a short distance only reaching 3rd gear speeds. I've read somewhere that a software update may fix this issue but haven't talked with the dealership service dept about it yet.

I've had it happen on 21 gen2 when down shifting but only a few times in about 4000 miles. Not happening enough to work out a sequence or why so I'm living with it.

There is a learning curve to using the AutoShifter Pro on the Gen 2 XR. Use the autoshiter all the time. Consider not pulling in on the clutch until you are almost stoped and in 1st gear. Also, the update for the bike at the BMW Motorrad dealer realy helps reduce this stalling.

As I posted above, that's the trick I figured out too and I have not had it happen again in about 2k miles.

I had the sporadic stall on my Gen 2 but it seems to have stopped doing it lately. I have not had the firmware update as yet.
Could it be that the ECU "learns" not to allow it to stall?
Or maybe I "learned" the late clutch technique described above?

This was a common issue for this bike, I have a 2020 model and it had this issue.
BMW did fix the issue with a software update around a year ago, it should be covered under warranty by the dealer.

This was fixed by software update, I advice each one of you go to BMW and have them do it. Technically shouldn't cost you anything because it's known issue. IF you don't want to do that, get Brentuning Stage 1 or even Stage 2, yes it's price, but it fixes the issue and make your bike even better than before.
