Adaptive headlight, Headlight Pro and LED Additional Fog Light

Making sure I understand the lighting options before going in to bat to buy a new S 1000 XR.  Unlike the BMW Motorrad UK configurator, prices below include VAT

    Adaptive Headlight
Adding 'adaptive headlight' for £252 automatically adds 'headlight pro' for another £360 - so now we're at £612 / US$750 including something I don't want.  I've been riding for over 25 years in all weathers and on all types of road without an adaptive headlight, so should it really be on my list?

    LED Additional Fog Lights
These come in at £444.00 for the pair.  Ouch.  Yes, it is convenient and I don't need to do any fiddling to add my own, but are there well-regarded aftermarket options that fit well, suit the bike and don't cost anything like as much as these do?  For a couple of castings and some cheap mass produced electronics the price is insane.

I'm not a penny pincher but the pricing approach to these items grates.

    Many thanks,
    WH

Adaptive headlights includes a bunch of other pre requisites that mean you need the whole package.

As for the DRLs, there is plenty of posts on here about aftermarket solutions and there are dozens of very very good, easy to install aftermarket options even for the Gen 2. Check out Denali.

As with most manufacturers extras like this are only worth getting if you get the whole package or a freebie deal when buying. Such as the XR TE is only 2k more expensive than the standard model but includes the 900 quid Touring and 1000 quid dynamic packages, so in that case your Headlights pro is only a 100 quid addition if you decide to go with the TE model which has them as standard + many more features. BMW's base models were never attractively priced, it almost always only makes sense to buy the top tier model, which in this case is the TE. There is a reason there is almost zero standard model Gen 1 XRs on the market, 95% are Sport SE (top model) and the remaining are probably Sport models.

    Thank you, Antares.

I agree on the packages approach as far as possible (my spec includes M Package, Touring Package and Dynamic Package) but unlike previously I can no longer find the Touring Edition in the BMW Motorrad UK configurator - just the individual packages plus all the stand alone (or combined  :002:) options.

I'll check out Denali lamps and am grateful for the gentle guidance as I try to consume masses of information.

For any forum user with experience of them; I'm still interested in whether the adaptive headlamps are worthwhile, please.

    Cheers,
    WH

I've got a gen 1 and no spotlights so can't comment on that, I do find I'd prefer some more corner lighting though occasionally as I do ride in the dark fairly often but I can't say anything about the Gen 2s lighting.

    As for the configurator

You need to change to the "S1000XR TE" a bit further down where it lists the models and enter the configurator from there. Or when in the configurator click "Change model" "Go to model finder" and select the TE model from there  :152:

Thank you once again, Antares.   :763:

I've found the TE now - which as you say includes the adaptive headlamp.  Before I start negotiating and to identical spec it's a useful £540 cheaper than without being a TE.
