Tyre question, but not the usual..

Morning all, and a Happy New Year.. I trust you've all had a great break and are now planning this year's riding escapades..  :046:

So, I'm about to put some new rubber on the rims, I've been a Bridgestone fan for many years, changing any OE tyres for BT's as soon as was possible.

However, having had my first set on the XR I have found the front wares really weird and leaves a slight step either side of the centre of the tyre. I'm sure this is the reason for the horrible weave I get when cornering at high speed and even weaving in a straight line around the 120mpg mark. (private road)  :164:

I'm not asking what you all use. My question is, Is there a reason BT's aren't used, or at least aren't popular on XR's  :187:

BTW, I'm going to try a pair of Pilot Road 6's..  :028:

Just a little FYI....they're not called "Pilot" Road 6 anymore.....Michelin dropped the pilot moniker after the pilot road 4.

    It's just Road 5 or 6 now.

Sorry to be a pedantic twat.. :034:

If you look at the sidewall of the tyre, the "pilot" name is no longer there. :038:

You won't be disappointed with the Road 6's....a very good all-round tyre. TBH, most of the brand name S/T tyres are very good. I have Dunlop Roadsmart IV's on mine at present and they're also very good.

    Thanks all for your input.

I have ditched the BT's for the first time in many years.. :084:

I've opted for a pair of Road 5's £283.00 fitted and balanced to loose wheels.  :001:

Tyre place is about 3 miles from my house so there's no point looking around for a better deal or trying to fit them myself. Besides, my partner will take them in her car during the week, so it's just a case of whipping the wheels out and re fitting when the new rubber is on..   :001:

The company "Bike Tyres Leeds" do a fitting service by appointment on Saturday mornings but not until March, hence my better half sorting them during the week for me.

Wow..that's not much more than the cost for just the rear Road 6 in the states dropped off at my door naked with no mounting.  A full set here is something like £450 without mounting.

Damn, that's a big chunk of dosh..  :013: I could have had the Road 6's for £326 fitted to loose wheels and balanced.. I only went for the 5's to save money because I needed a new chain and a chain tool.. and a manual cam chain tensioner so the bill was racking up..  :164:

The Roadtecs can be had over here for like £115ish less a set.  I'm going to try to figure out which ones I like better once the weather gets a bit better as I have Roadtecs on my gen 2 and brand new Road 6's on my gen 1 that I just fitted at the end of riding season.  If it's a toss up I'll go the cheaper route.
